SEEKONK, Mass. — The youth of Seekonk Speedway competition is alive and well - along with some established drivers moving into other divisions and pouncing on the opportunity. Through two NASCAR Saturday and two Fast Friday events in 2024, Seekonk Speedway has welcomed nine different first-time winners into the record books in their respective divisions. Liam Monaghan won in the ultra-competitive East Coast Towing Spectator Drag Series on May 11 beating top contender Matt Desrosiers. On NASCAR Saturday, June 1, Tim Bolger Jr. parked his Chaz Auto Body Sport Truck in Victory lane for the first time, as a former Fast Friday Sport 4 competitor. Last Friday night, May 31, in week two of the Fast Friday season, three more first-time feature winners added their names to the list in their respective divisions. In the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandits, driving the No. 99 for Helger’s Racing, Mason Silva rocketed to his first career win. In the Outlaws, it was Brody Wakefield capturing his first Seekonk victory, driving away from his competitors. In the Helger’s Pure Stocks, Brent Robidoux used the outside lane to pass for the lead and rolled away to his first career victory in just his second Pure Stock start. Back on Fast Friday opening night, May 24, Luka Dib also piloted his No. 13 to his first career win in the Bandolero Bandits, and Mike Hanafin was in the winner’s circle for the first time in his Bandolero Outlaw career. Matt Pion captured his first Sport 4 win on opening night as well. During the opener of the NASCAR Saturday season on May 11, Josh Hedges - a former Sport Truck champion and Late Model winner - added a Helger’s Sportsman trophy to his resume. “I thought it would take a while (to get my first win),” Brent Robidoux, a former winner in the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero divisions, said after his first Pure Stock win. “At the beginning of the year, I didn’t even know if I was going to be driving this year. It was rough starting sixth and I knew we had some work to do, but it was some clean racing. I love it. I was just telling myself to bring it home.” A few young rising stars were rather speechless after winning. “This is really awesome - we came out from the first race in third - and we came back this week and came out on top - it’s amazing,” Wakefield said. “I’m just out of words,” Mason Silva said. With Fast Friday often producing the future stars of NASCAR Saturday at Seekonk Speedway, and some of Seekonk’s top Saturday drivers moving on to compete in higher ranks in short-track or even National Series racing, the 2024 season is once again showing Seekonk Speedway has such a stable group of rising stars that fans love to watch compete weekly. Seekonk Speedway’s Fast Friday divisions will return to the track on Friday, June 7, for another night of racing. NASCAR Saturday on June 8 includes the return of the American-Canadian Tour for the Spring Green 124, along with the Pro Stocks, Sportsman and Sport Trucks. Tickets and information on all Seekonk Speedway events are available online at SeekonkSpeedway.com. SEEKONK, Mass. — The Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Sportsman may have run their feature after the Whelen Modified Tour, but it was one fans did not want to miss. And in the final stretch run to the finish, the fans saw a show worth the price of admission. In the end, after 25 laps, it was Scott Serydynski Jr. carrying the checkered flag. Serydynski made a late move to take the lead, then held off all challengers to score the feature win. Colby Lambert and Mike Mitchell both started deep in the field and both made their way up through, ending up on the podium in second and third. Doug Benoit and Tyler Almeida followed, finishing fourth and fifth. Josh Hedges charged through the field, after winning race one of the season, and finished sixth in race two. He was followed by Adam Pettey, who led many laps on Saturday, Rob Kohler, Jimmy “Pepe” Silvia and Jeremy Lambert. The Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Sportsman will be back on track for round one of the Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown on Saturday, June 8. In the 25-lap Chaz Auto Body Sport Truck race at Seekonk, Bolger jumped out to the lead early, and was ahead of some trouble behind him throughout the race. As the race winded down, it was clear Bolger was going to be tough to beat. The former Fast Friday regular picked up his first career Sport Truck win on NASCAR Saturday. He was followed to the line by Amy Arsenault, a former graduate of Fast Friday herself, finishing in second. Jake Vanada was third, while Mike Duarte and Dane Saritelli followed. Tom Scully III, Marissa Morgan, Rick Martin, Mike Cavallaro and Steven Buckley were also in the top-10. The Chaz Auto Body Sport Trucks will be back on track for 25 laps on Saturday, June 8. SEEKONK, Mass. -- Matt Hirschman was visibly disappointed when he made his selection during the redraw for the J&R Precast 150 at Seekonk Speedway on Saturday night. After setting the fastest time of the day in qualifying, Hirschman would forgo the pole position by drawing the lowest starting position possible, eighth. This left Hirschman with 150 laps to work his way up from the middle of the pack at a 0.333-mile facility where track position is paramount.
Hirschman predominantly relied on skill instead of luck to surge towards the front of the field. After methodically climbing to second, Hirschman emerged victorious in an intense restart duel with his Northampton, Pennsylvania, neighbor Austin Beers to obtain his second consecutive NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour victory at Seekonk. “We had to work for that one for sure,” Hirschman said. “[Seekonk] is always a challenging track. The characteristics change throughout the race, but the characteristics of my car changed throughout the race. It came in good on the restart and I was able to go side-by-side with Austin and get past him.” Hirschman joined an exclusive list of drivers who have multiple Seekonk wins in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. The only other member of that group is Doug Coby, whose triumphs came in 2017 and 2019, respectively. Even with his odds of a victory hindered by a poor draw, Hirschman never doubted his ability to find his way towards the front. Hirschman needed a caution to mount a challenge for the lead. Unlike earlier at the redraw, luck was on Hirschman’s side when a spin by Tyler Catalano brought out the first and only caution of the night with 30 laps remaining. Hirschman held his own on the top side against Beers, who lost the lead after slight contact with the No. 60 caused him to briefly lose control of his No. 64. Beers held on to finish second, but he felt dejected knowing he was only a few laps away from claiming a win at the same track where his father Eric picked up his maiden NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour victory in 2005. Hirschman considered himself lucky his first victory of 2024 came during Seekonk’s tribute weekend to Modified legend Bugsy Stevens, who passed away on May 20. He has long respected Stevens’ ability as a competitor and hopes to keep honoring his legacy with more Seekonk victories. “To finally get out on the road and have a big win, that’s overdue at least in my opinion,” Hirschman said. “Everybody kept working and we got it done tonight on a special night where we remembered Bugsy Stevens. It was an honor to be here.” NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour points leader Ron Silk placed third after starting 11th. He was followed by Stephen Kopcik and Justin Bonsignore. The rest of the top 10 finishers were Jacob Lutz, Kyle Bonsignore, Patrick Emerling, Jake Johnson and Matt Swanson. SEEKONK, Mass. — The month of May ends, and the month of June begins in a big way this weekend at Seekonk Speedway. On Friday night, the Fast Friday divisions hit the track for the second time this year chasing feature wins at 7 p.m. On NASCAR Saturday, the Whelen Modified Tour will be in town for the J&R Precast 150, while the Helger’s Sportsman, Chaz’s Sport Trucks and Late Models will also be in action beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tickets for both nights are available now online at SeekonkSpeedway.com. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour invades Seekonk on Saturday for the first and only visit of the season. All drivers are chasing Ron Silk in the Tour standings. Silk has three victories in the first five Whelen Modified Tour events of the season at New Smyrna, Thompson and Riverhead. Other winners this season include three-time series champion Justin Bonsignore (Richmond) and Jake Johnson (Monadnock). Jake is familiar with Seekonk Speedway fans as a multiple-time champion in the Fast Friday Legends Cars division and feature winner in the Pro Stocks and Late Models, who has now gone Modified racing. There will also be many other contenders in the field like Matt Hirschman, Doug Coby and more. Saturday’s racing also includes the first round of the Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown Series for the Late Models, set for 50 laps. Richie Murray dominated the second half of the season-opener on May 11 and will return looking to charge through the field and make it back-to-back. He will be closely challenged by names like Jacob “Rowdy” Burns, defending champion Vinnie Arrenegado, Luke Lebrun, Connor Souza and more. The extra-distance event will be the highlight of a full night of NASCAR Advance Auto Parts weekly racing. The Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Sportsman will also be on track for their second race of the year. Part-time campaigner Josh Hedges won the first one over Tyler Almeida. But, defending division champion Steve Axon and front-runner Adam Pettey will be looking to get back to the front this week. They will be joined by the Chaz’s Auto Body Sport Trucks, who have their own 25-lap event planned. Defending and seven-time Seekonk champion Rick Martin won the first race, but will have names like Mike Duarte, Darryl Church, Jake Vanada and others looking to take him down. Saturday night racing begins with a special ceremony for Carl “Bugsy” Stevens, a four-time Seekonk Speedway champion and also a historic NASCAR Modified champion, who passed away last week. Fans are encouraged to get to the track by 5 p.m. to make sure they do not miss the special ceremony. The ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by qualifying for the Whelen Modified Tour, then heat races. The Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars will headline the Fast Friday campaign, as a five-division card roars the Action Track of the East to life to end the work-week. The Legends are coming off a strong first race that saw defending champion Jacob “Rowdy” Burns capture the feature win over Richie Helger Jr and Mason Tessier. Not only will the Legends run 25 laps, but the Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Pure Stocks and Sport 4’s will do the same. In the Pure Stocks, the first event of the year went to defending champion Jared Cordeira, who jumped out early and dominated the show. He was joined on the podium at the end by Mike Henriques, who started last and charged through the field to finish second, and Brent Robidoux, a Rookie of the Year contender in the division. In the Sport 4 class, Matt Pion started off 2024 strong with his first career win. He’s heading back for week two looking for more, but names like Taylor Bowser, Crystal Murray and others will look to challenge. Both Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero divisions had a strong start to the year, with Luka Dib (Bandits) and Mike Hanafin (Outlaws) winning their first events. Naming just a few drivers to watch in these classes would be tough, as they both showcase Seekonk’s youth, rising talent. Both divisions will be on track on Friday for 15 lap races. Tickets for both nights are available online at SeekonkSpeedway.com. Friday racing begins at 7 p.m., while Saturday action goes green at 5:30 p.m. For more information on Seekonk Speedway, visit SeekonkSpeedway.com and follow the track on social media for the latest news and updates. Silk, Bonsignore and Johnson are just three of the contenders for Saturday night’s 150-lap affair. Defending event winner Matt Hirschman will also be in the field - always a threat to win. He dominated last year’s race, leading all 150 laps en route to the win. Two-time Seekonk Tour winner Doug Coby, who is also a Seekonk winner in Tour-Type Modified (non-NASCAR sanctioned) and Midget action, will also be in the field. Coby will drive the No. 44 for Tinio Racing, looking for his first win with that bunch. Fans should also keep an eye on names like Craig Lutz and Patrick Emerling, who enter the race fourth and fifth in the Whelen Modified Tour point standings. Rising star Austin Beers, Kyle Bonsignore, Trevor Catalano, Tyler Rypkema and Tommy Catalano are also expected to be contenders. In 11 previous NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour races at Seekonk, 10 different drivers have been to Victory Lane. Will another new winner be added this time around? Also on the card, Seekonk’s Late Models open the Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown Series with a 50-lap feature, while both the Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Sportsman and Chaz Auto Body Sport Trucks will run 25 laps. The Late Models are also back for race two of their season, set for 30 laps, while the Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Sportsman will be on track for 25 laps of their own. In the Sport Trucks, Rick Martin made an early statement on opening night, picking up the victory. As the reigning champion of the division for the last two years, Martin hasn’t lost a step over the winter - but has some stout competition coming behind him. Darryl Church and Mike Duarte showed impressive speed in race one, joining Martin on the podium. Look out for Jake Vanada, Amy Arsenault, DJ Thibeault, Mike Cavallaro and others in their Triple Crown opener. The Pro Stock field chased Colbey Fournier for much of the opening race of the season. Although he won the 40-lap race to kick-off the year, he was closely challenged by Bobby Pelland, Vinnie Arrenegado and others over the distance. Arrenegado, a two-time and defending Seekonk Late Model champion, was impressive in his Pro Stock debut, and what better way for him to break into Victory Lane than the first Triple Crown event? Names like Dick Benoit, Mark Jenison, Dylan Estrella and others are ready to do battle for 60 laps on Saturday night. Richie Murray dominated the second half of the opening race of the Late Model season, besting names like Chase Belcher, Arrenegado and Connor Souza to score the win in race one. He will be back to challenge others to try and make it two in a row - but additional names like Luke Lebrun, Charlie Rose and Mark Jenison will do everything they can to park their own car in Victory Lane after 30 laps. The Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Sportsman division had a wild lap one, and a finish that saw part-time competitor Josh Hedges pick up the win. Former Fast Friday driver Tyler Almeida posted his best career finish in the opener - a second - while Jeremy Lambert made his Sportsman debut worth it, finishing on the podium. Looking to rebound, defending champion Steve Axon and 2023 dominator Adam Petty will both be coming back from the lap one wreck lookin to pounce. NASCAR Saturday grandstand gates will open at 4:30 p.m. for advanced ticket holders and 5 p.m. for those who purchase tickets at the track on race day.
