![]() Even though she left early during the 2021 season to finish some of her education, Crystal Murray is coming back with a vengeance in 2022 in the Sport 4 division on Fast Friday. When the season begins on Friday, May 27, the driver of the No. 38 will be looking to capture the checkered flag, and it’s expected she will be a top contender throughout what will be another busy year for the division. With a few of the drivers who contended for the title last year not planning to run full-time, the division should be open to some additional challengers, both for feature wins, and the battle for the championship. As Seekonk introduces the playoff system — the Drive 4 For The Cup — including three races in September, where the field will be cut from 8 drivers, to 6 drivers, to 4 drivers for the final race — who will be the one to become champion? In that final championship race, the driver that bests the other three in the feature will be the champion. The question is: who will make it there? Murray, who comes from a family with a steep history of winning, is no stranger to Victory Lane herself. She won multiple in a row in 2021, and could go on a similar role when the green flag drops this season. But who might be right on her bumper? Names like Karlin Levesque, Tyler Duhancik and Henry Lavallee are probably a few to watch. All three are former winners in the division, with Levesque and Duhancik picking up feature wins last year. Levesque, in the familiar red No. 44, always has the speed to run inside the top-five, and has become consistent. Duhancik may have had a few mechanical failures along the way the last two years, but has come a long way behind the wheel and is always a threat to run at the front. Lavallee, who hasn’t won in many years, seemed to find his groove at the end of last year and should be ready to pounce come opening night. Mikey LeFort and Dave Simpson Jr. both contended for the title on the final night last year, but it’s unclear how many races they are planning on running, with LeFort focusing on his son in the Bandolero division and Simpson registering to compete in a Chaz Auto Body Sport Truck on NASCAR Saturday at some point this year. If they do race in the Sport 4 class, look out for them to get to Victory Lane quickly. Names like Samantha Mattera, Taylor Bowser, Daniel Hayes, Stephanie Bruneau, Christine Cavallaro and DJ Thibeault are also some of the registered competitors for the season. Mattera is a former winner, and the Boss Lady always seems to be in contention with speed when she hits the track. Bowser may have struggled last year, but she’s not going to let that slow her down in her road to try to make victory lane. Look for newcomers to also enter the division looking to make their own mark. Names like Jacob Budzyna, Justin Leduc, James Sullivan, Ronald Gajdowski, Andrew Rittman-McLaughlin and Billman DeCosta should all be learning the ropes right from the first green flag. The Everett’s Auto Parts Sport 4 season begins on Friday, May 27 with a 25-lap feature and will roll through Friday, September 23, where the champion will be crowned. Tickets for all Seekonk Speedway Fast Friday, NASCAR Saturday and Thrill Show events are available today at SeekonkSpeedway.com. With some of the top contenders from the 2021 season moving on, the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Outlaw field will welcome a new set of challengers to race for the title this year. Names like Brent Robidoux and Adam Harrison, two of the more polished veterans of the class, will be some of the favorites to win the crown, joined by Bradley Strickland, Mikey LeFort III, Joey Lemay and more. As Seekonk introduces the playoff system — the Drive 4 For The Cup — including three races in September, where the field will be cut from 6 drivers, to 5 drivers, to 4 drivers for the final race — who will be the one to become champion? In that final championship race, the driver that bests the other three in the feature will be the champion. The question is: who will make it there? Robidoux and Harrison do seem to be the favorites. Robidoux went to Victory Lane twice last year, including in the season-finale, and has come into his own in a difficult division behind the wheel of the No. 25. Harrison, who may not win as much as he would like, is known as “Hollywood” and was in the top-five more often than not when you look at the results from the end of the 2021 season. Both of these drivers should win, often. Behind them, the list of contenders is a close and tough to pick through. Even though defending division champion Richie Helger Jr. is registered to race, he isn’t necessarily planning on running the full schedule, as of now. However, the Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Racing team isn’t going to be giving up. They have Mikey LeFort III, moving up to the Outlaws from the Bandits for 2022, and newcomer Bobby Bettencourt III, both planning to race. LeFort didn’t win in the Bandits, but was consistently improving and has some of the highest confidence in the division. Bettencourt, who comes from a racing family that includes Bobby Bettencourt, a very successful Sportsman driver in his day, will be looking to learn and soak up the experience with hopes of contending for his first win. Other returning contenders to the class include Joey Lemay, a multiple-time winner, Andrew Gomes and Dylan Calabro. These three rising stars will be looking to fend-off the charges of those above, and those who are entering the class for the first time this season looking to make their own mark. Names like Jordan Duquette, son of former Late Model and Sportsman competitor Frank Duquette, Leo Rossi and Abbie Badejo are also planning to compete. All of them have been part of the pre-season practice sessions and will be looking to gain their own experience and contend to visit Victory Lane. The Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Outlaw season begins on Friday, May 27 with a 15-lap feature and will roll through Friday, September 23, where the champion will be crowned. Tickets for all Seekonk Speedway Fast Friday, NASCAR Saturday and Thrill Show events are available today at SeekonkSpeedway.com. Fans are encouraged to follow the track on social media for the latest updates and information. One year after watching Darren Krantz Jr. rocket to the championship in the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandits, the rest of the field is going to be right on his bumper when they hit the track in 2022. Beginning on Friday, May 27, the Bandolero Bandits — a group of drivers that range from ages 8-12 — will hit the track to compete for feature wins in 15 lap feature races as part of Seekonk’s Youth Racing Association. Krantz is the favorite heading into the year, especially off his success from last year. But, with a new playoff format in the cards for 2022, anything can, and will happen, and every lap matters. Krantz is high on the list, but will be closely followed by names like Ryan Vanasse Jr., Sam Macedo, Collin Vanasse and Milania Shilosky, all expected to be contenders. Macedo went on a tear during the 2021 season, winning seven in a row, and even though he came up short in the end, this new format with winning mattering a ton could play right into his favor. The Vanasse family — both Ryan and Collin — have both proven before they know how to run in the front. Ryan is a multiple-time winner in the division, while Collin has been a top-five contender and should pick up his first victory in 2022. Shilosky continues a storied history of female, youth contenders in the Seekonk Youth Racing Association and was on fire at the end of 2021. The driver of the pink and black No. 99 should be right where she needs to be when the season gets underway. Other returning contenders are expected to include Nick Uhrig Jr., Luka Dib, Zacarias Kelley, Colin Floyd, Mike Hanafin and RJ Murphy. After a ton of pre-season laps, Murphy, the son of former Sport Truck champion Rob Murphy, should be a contender to get to Victory Lane this year. As always, the division will welcome multiple newcomers, many of them ready for their first laps of racing in their life. Names like Brody Wakefield, Allyha DeSomma, Parker Davis, Grayson Day, Bryson Robidoux and Zachary Keith are all expected to race, and many of them have been practicing ahead of the year. Look out for Robidoux — who has a brother, Brent, who is a two-time winner in the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Outlaw, and a father, John, who is a former track winner on Fast Friday in the Pure Stocks. The Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandit season begins on Friday, May 27 with a 15-lap feature and will roll through Friday, September 23, where the champion will be crowned. Tickets for all Seekonk Speedway Fast Friday, NASCAR Saturday and Thrill Show events are available today at SeekonkSpeedway.com. Some of Seekonk Speedway’s top youth racing stars, mixed with rising stars and polished veterans, hit the track for the second time in 2022 on Friday, May 13. The Fast Friday competitors — including drivers from all five divisions on Friday nights — had their second and final test and tune session ahead of opening night on Friday, May 27. The night included a mix of drivers looking to get their feet wet before racing begins and others who were looking to fine tune their rides with hopes of opening the season in Victory Lane. The youth stars of the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandits hit the track with names like Milania Shilosky, last years championship runner-up, showing the most speed. She was followed closely by newcomer Zachary Keith, returning drivers Zacarias Kelley and Luka Dib, and RJ Murphy. In the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Outlaws, Mikey LeFort III picked up where he ended last season in the Bandit division, showing plenty of speed. LeFort paced many of the practice rounds but was closely followed by Andrew Gomes, and Brent Robidoux, a multiple-time winner last season. Newcomers Bobby Bettencourt III, Abbie Badejo and Jordan Duquette also took some laps to prepare for the season. The Everett’s Auto Parts Sport 4 division hit the track with Crystal Murray flexing her muscle in the practice rounds to open the year. Murray was at the top of most of the practice sessions with names like Karlin Levesque, Henry Lavallee, Daniel Hayes, Stephanie Bruneau and Taylor Bowser also taking some laps. In the Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Pure Stocks, Danny Massa and Ethan Souza seemed to have two of the fastest rides. Massa, a multiple-time winner early in 2021, came up short of the championship but will be looking to grab it this year. Souza picked up his first win last season and showed speed throughout the year. Names like Timmy Ouellette, Austin Flanagan, Rob Hendrickson, Jared Cordeira and others also took advantage of the pre-season practice. And in the Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars, some of the early contenders for the 2022 season were there to shake down their rides. As part of a new partnership this year, Devin Deshaies is moving over to drive for B&M Maintenance and they posted the fastest lap of the night. The Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Racing duo of Richie Helger Jr and Mason Tessier were not far behind, with Tessier looking to grab more wins this year, while Helger is planning on making his Rookie season one to remember. Names like Reese Bogue, Isaiah Newcomb, Branden LaBelle, Brody Monahan and others also attended the practice rounds. Tickets for all Fast Friday events are available now online by visiting SeekonkSpeedway.com. Fast Friday tickets are $10 for adults with kids 12 and under free and all parking free. By purchasing in advance, you will be able to skip the lines on race day. For the first time in 2022, Seekonk Speedway’s third-mile roared to life on Saturday, April 16, for practice day ahead of the season opener for both Fast Friday and NASCAR Saturday. More than 40 teams took to the track for some test and tune laps, led by former division champions, rising stars, title favorites and Rookie of the Year contenders.
Some of the top challengers in the Pro Stock championship battle were there to start 2022 early. While eight-time track champion Dave Darling wasn’t, some took advantage of the track time to try and get a head start on the season. Former Late Model champions Ryan Vanasse, Bobby Pelland and Tommy Adams, all planning to campaign in the Pro Stocks at some level in 2022, posted some of the top times of the day. Former Pro Stock champion Kenny Spencer took a few laps, along with Billy Joeress, Daryl Stampfl and Dylan Estrella. The big question of the day was if Jeff Belyea, Dave Darling’s crew chief, who also registered as a driver for 2022, would attend. The answer was no... but will we see him on track on opening day battling his car owner for Pro Stock Glory. In the Late Models, Mike Duarte and Richie Murray, two rising Late Model stars, were the top contenders of the day. They found themselves at the top of the chart for most of the sessions, with names like Josh Hedges and Paul Lallier not far behind. Former Legends Cars standout and now Late Model Rookie of the Year contender Reese Bogue also took his first laps around other cars and proved that he wouldn’t be shying away from the challenge. The Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Sportsman may have been the most populated division of the day, with even a few bumps and bruises of side-by-side racing going on during test laps. Names like former champion Steve Axon, Ed Perry, Don Perry, Adam Petty and Mark Healy were among the fastest of the afternoon. In the Chaz Auto Body Sport Trucks, Radical Rick Martin unloaded a brand new ride in his chase to get even further over 100 wins in Seekonk history, and the veteran posted the quickest time of the day. Names like Mike Cavallaro, Danny Thibeault, Tom Scully III, and a few others also took laps. In the Fast Friday classes, the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero’s were not allowed to attend, as they will have their own practice later in the spring. The Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Pure Stocks took off quickly, with names like Sam Lincoln, Ethan Souza, Rob Hendrickson, Billy Chouinard and others taking time on the track. The Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars also debuted for 2022, with Richie Helger Jr. competing in his first competitive race laps in a Legend Car, one year after winning the championship in the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Outlaws. He was joined by teammate Mason Tessier on the track. The Sport 4 division also started off strong with names like Kaleb Marcou, Stephanie Bruneau and more taking a few circuits. Seekonk Speedway will open the 76th season of full-time racing as part of a packed weekend on Sunday, May 1 at 2PM. All four NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series divisions — headlined by the Pro Stocks and Late Models — will contest in their first races of the year. The Fast Friday series will begin on Friday, May 27 at 7PM. SEEKONK, Mass. — Seekonk Speedway announced today the tire policy the third-mile oval will put in place to begin the 2022 NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series season. Due to the national tire shortage, affecting short-track racing across the country, Seekonk Speedway will limit the number of tires teams can purchase and maintain a specific allotment throughout the year to keep competitors on an equal playing field. Not only will this allotment keep competitors equal — but it will also help the track attempt to maintain as many tires as possible over the course of the season to ensure all competitors have enough to keep racing and not be forced to cancel events like some tracks have across the country. “We’re looking to do what is best for our competitors and fans — to make sure we have enough tires for our teams to be able to race competitively — not just in the first month — but for the entire 2022 season,” David Alburn, Competition Director at Seekonk Speedway, said. “Tire rules are nothing different to Seekonk – we’ve had tire limit rules for years to help keep fair and equal competition. This has just tightened up the rules just a little more.” The tire allotment for teams in the Pro Stock and Late Model division will begin with 8 per car for the first scheduled race of the season on Sunday, May 1. Once drivers complete a race, the team’s TCA (Team Current Allowance of tires) will increase by two tires at the next attended race. Teams that don’t race Opening Day and attend any race after the first event will start with a TCA of 6 for their car. For the Seekonk Sport Trucks and Sportsman, teams will be allowed six tires per car in their allotment to open the season. Both divisions will have restrictions on the first buy to four tires with the other two coming at other released date. The Sportsman tire rule is still to be determined as this will be the first year for them on a tire limit rule. The track will release more details when available in the Sportsman based on allotment. Teams will not be eligible to purchase tires for only practice purposes unless they are part of their allotment. Teams will have to practice on tires from previous years or will have to use part of their 8 tires (for Pro Stocks or Late Models) to practice. At the end of each feature race, the tire official will confirm that the tires on the car for that race as part of a driver’s inventory with the track for the 2022 season. If any tires are found on the car that are not registered with the track for 2022 racing, the car will be penalized. If a team is found to be racing or practicing 2022 tires that are not recorded in their inventory, they will be penalized their next TCA allowance and placed to the rear of the finishing order for that race. This means that tires purchased from Seekonk Speedway in 2022 must be run only on the car where they have been purchased for. Car 09 cannot run tires that were sold to car 15. Tire sales will take place for the first time on Wednesday, April 13, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the track. A second mid-week date for tire sales will be Wednesday, April 27 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tires will also be sold to those eligible at Open Practice sessions on Saturday, April 16 and Saturday, April 30. Rain dates will be announced if necessary. Tires will not be sold on any additional dates or times. In a chance that a team doesn’t make any of the pre-season dates, they will be able to purchase their allotment on opening day. In order to be eligible to purchase tires, each car must be registered at the track for the 2022 season in advance — with both an owner and a driver signed up. No tires will be sold to teams who have just an owner signed up or just a driver. Both must be fully registered in order for sales to occur for that team. New for 2022, upon arriving for tire sales, a raffle will take place a few minutes before sales begin to determine who will be first in line into the tire shed. This will prevent some competitors from showing up earlier than others who may not be able to get there early to get in line. The lottery will be a random draw to determine those who are in attendance in which order they can enter the tire shed to select their tires. Teams can only purchase four tires per week (Monday-Sunday) during specific tire sales times. Tires will be scanned at the time of purchase into a team's inventory. As part of their allotment, teams may register tires from last year as race tires, if they wish. They must see a tire official and fill out a registration card with each tires ID numbers. Teams must still follow the TCA for their car. If they register 8 tires from last year for opening day, those eight tires act as those in their inventory. The only tires from past years that should be registered in a team’s inventory are those that they plan to run in race competition (heats and features). Tires purchased from previous years that will be for practice only should not be registered in the allotment. All tire sales are final. When tires are recorded and leave the tire area or once tires have been mounted on rims, tire sales are final and cannot be exchanged or refunded. Tire testing will be done at the discretion of Seekonk officials. Seekonk Speedway understands the frustration that comes with the current tire situation. The track has received tires to get the season going, but this is just a limited supply. If the production increases and more tires are available during the season, we will announce changes to the allowance for each team at that time. Any questions should be directed to Seekonk Speedway Competition Director David Alburn. For more information on Seekonk Speedway, visit SeekonkSpeedway.com and follow the track on social media. Seekonk Speedway announced today the addition of the Nick Lascuola Racing (NLR) Summer Showdown as part of the Bay State Classic on Wednesday, July 27. As part of a full night of mid-week racing at the third-mile, the Pro All Star Series (PASS) stars will battle against Seekonk Speedway Pro Stock regulars in a 150-lap, $10,000 to win main event. As part of the supporting card, one of Seekonk’s Fast Friday divisions will help keep fans engaged all night, along with the return of the PASS Modifieds. The NLR Summer Showdown will be a non-points event when it comes to the weekly Seekonk schedule — however — it will have big money on the line. The race will pay $1,500 to win for the second straight year courtesy of sponsorship by B&M Maintenance — and will have a total purse inside the top-10 of just over $5,000. The 35-lap special will be part of a major night — as the racing will all be shown live on FloRacing.TV — showcasing the action to a national audience as part of a deal between Seekonk and FloRacing, a growing streaming partner in short-track racing. There will also be a Bonus for the Nicks Pitstop Monster Lap Pole Award and additional $500 awarded into the purse in some awards to be announced later. “Legend Car drivers and teams are so dedicated and committed each and every year. It’s awesome to be able to get them on the big stage, especially with the PASS Series, and have them race for a big purse,” Nick Lascuola, owner of NLR, said. "The last two years, the best races of the year for the Legends Cars have been the big money shows, so it’ll be exciting to watch the drivers duke it out and show off their skills in the spotlight again this year." Nick Lascuola Racing is operated by former Seekonk Speedway Legends Cars and Seekonk Youth Racing Association winner and champion, Nick Lascuola. Based in Massachusetts, they offer setup, maintenance and rental programs to competitors for weekly racing at Seekonk, along with some additional select events in the area. For more information, or to get your ride today, call 508-828-8233. “We’re excited to have this special Legends Cars event and looking forward to hopefully drawing some competitors from out of the area to battle with our local track stars,” Ed St. Germain, Director of Business Development, said. “Our Fast Friday Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars program is one of the top in the region, and we’re proud of it. We are able to showcase both the youth of the track and some veteran drivers who would like to compete in a bit more affordable class. The Legends Cars are a major part of the Seekonk Speedway family, and so is Nick Lascuola Racing — a sponsor of the track for many years and a great partner. This elevates this event even higher." The Bay State Classic -- including the NLR Summer Showdown for the INEX Legends Cars — is just one of three special Wednesday nights event in 2022. On Wednesday, June 29, Modified Madness returns with the Tri Track Tour-Type Modifieds battling for a $10,000 prize. On Wednesday, August 24 — the NEMA Midgets and NEMA Lites return for the Boston Louie Seymour Memorial Classic — while the New England Supermodified Series — operated by PASS — will also make their debut on that night. Tickets for all Wednesday events — and Fast Friday, NASCAR Saturday and Thrill Show races — are now available at SeekonkSpeedway.com. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance to avoid the busy lines on race day.
