TRIPLE CROWN: Randy Moretti Picks up Sportsman Win
In a race that was green and clean for the Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Sportsman on Saturday night at Seekonk Speedway, Randy Moretti took full advantage. Moretti picked up his first win in the Sportsman division in a 35-lap Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown event that went without a caution flag. While the cars spread out across the third-mile in the extra-distance event, the name of the game was to get to the front quick for Moretti. He passed for the lead on lap five and never gave up the top spot from there. In a borrowed ride after his wreck last week, Ryan Lineham charged through the field to finish in second, while Steve Axon and Chad Baxter had a tight battle over the final laps, with Axon taking third and Baxter fourth. Colby Lambert, winner from a week prior, was fifth. Adam Pettey, Craig Pianka, Chris Gomes, Nick Wood and Chris Rioux were positions six through 10 at the finish. The Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Sportsman will be back on the track on Saturday, July 22. SEEKONK, Mass. — When the Pro Stocks prepared for the extra-distance in the American Racer 75, it was no surprise to see Dave Darling in the field on Saturday night. And it was also no surprise to see Darling rocket to the front from his 10th place starting position and take away the big win after 75 laps.
In the special event, sponsored by Seekonk tire supplier American Racer, Darling worked his way past Kenny Spencer for the lead on lap 28 and never looked back. Spencer, a former champion himself, finished second, posting his best run of the season, with Tom Scully Jr. also posting his best run in third. Darryl Stampfl had a good run finishing in fourth, with Dylan Estrella completing the top-five. Bobby Pelland charged from the back to finish sixth with Mike Brightman, Mike Mitchell, Kevin Casper and Tommy Adams completing the top-10. The Pro Stocks will be back on the track on Saturday, July 15 for the Scully Memorial 55-lap race. SEEKONK, Mass. — After a tough few weeks of competition for Mike Cavallaro with his Sport Truck, the former champion had the right combination on Saturday night. Cavallaro jumped out front early in the 25-lap race for the Chaz Auto Body Sport Trucks and shook the bad luck monkey off his back, dominating to win the main event. It was the first win of the season for Cavallaro in a year that has seen him have plenty of speed, but fail to complete a full race up front.
Saturday was the night. Defending champion Rick Martin finished second with Jake Vanada racing his way through the field to finish in third. Jeff Belyea posted his best career finish in fourth spot with two-time season winner Brittany Campbell rounding out the top-five. Mike Duarte, Amy Arsenault, Ethan Heilborn, Bobby Tripp and Tom Scully III finished the top-10 spots. The Chaz Auto Body Sport Trucks will have two weeks off and will return to the track on Saturday, July 22.
