![]() SEEKONK, Mass. — Parker Davis added yet another victory to his Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandit season on Friday night to conclude the first round of the Sunoco Drive For The Cup. Unlike the last few weeks, where they had some tight racing to the finish in the Bandits, Davis was clear sailing out front this week in the 15-lap feature event. He advanced to round two after two victories in a row in round one of the playoffs and will be a threat for the title going forward. Mike Hanafin improved on last week's run and finished second, while Nick Urhig Jr. settled for third. Mason Silva and Sam Macedo followed in fourth and fifth place at the finish. Luka Dib, Carl Satterlund Jr., David Bernier, Alya Martin and Ryder Aguiar finished off the top-10. In the end, Aguiar was the one driver eliminated from playoff contention. Davis, Hanafin, Uhrig, Silva and Macedo are advancing to round two to chase the championship. The Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandits will return to the track on Friday, September 22, for another 15-lap feature. SEEKONK, Mass. — For the ninth time in 2023, Ryan Vanasse Jr. added his name to the winner list at Seekonk Speedway on Friday night. In the conclusion of the first round of the Sunoco Drive For the Cup in the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Outlaws, Vanasse entered the final lap in the lead. There was contact in turn three coming to the checkered flag, and Collin Vanasse crossed the line first. But, officials deemed Collin would be docked two positions, giving Ryan the victory, Andrew Gomes second and Collin third after 15-laps. All three advanced to the next round of the championship playoffs, joined by Bryson Robidoux (fourth) and Brent Robidoux (seventh). Dylan Calabro scored his best finish of the season in fifth, while RJ Murphy, Brent Robidoux, Brody Wakefield, Zachary Keith and Jordan Duquette finished in the top-10 spots as well. Zachary Keith was the one driver eliminated from the Bandolero Outlaw playoffs. The Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Outlaws will return to the track on Friday, September 22, for another 15-lap feature. SEEKONK, Mass. — The Seekonk Seekonk Sunoco Drive For The Cup is heading for its first eliminations this Friday and Saturday. As the first round of the championship playoffs comes to a close, one driver from each Bandolero division, and two from all other Seekonk classes, will be eliminated in their quest for the track championship after this weekend.
Friday night at 7 p.m., the Fast Friday drivers return to the track to try to move on for round two. Saturday night at 6 p.m., Advance NASCAR Weekly Racing Series drivers do the same. The battles are close in all divisions heading into the weekend, and it will go down to the final laps in each race to decide who is moving on, and who is going to be out. Drivers earn playoff points based off their finishing position. The highest finishing playoff driver earns 10, while the second highest earns 9, third highest earns 8, etc. At the end of this weekend, the lowest total in the Bandolero divisions and lowest two totals combined between last week and this week in the rest of the track divisions will be eliminated. In the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandits, Parker Davis is coming off a victory in the first race of round one last week and enters Friday with the most playoff points, 10. He’s followed by Nick Uhrig Jr. (9), Sam Macedo (8), Mike Hanafin (7), Ryder Aguiar (6) and Mason Silva (5). If the first round ended today, Silva would be out. But look for him to try and sneak his way back in with another consistent finish this Friday in the No. 31. In the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Outlaws, Ryan Vanasse Jr. added yet another win to his season last week, earning himself a smooth 10 playoff points. Collin Vanasse (9), Andrew Gomes (8), Brent Robidoux (7), Bryson Robidoux (6) and Zachary Keith (5) are the drivers with him in the playoffs. Can Ryan continue his hot season with another victory this Friday? Or will one of the playoff drivers knock him off and make it clear they aren’t out of it? Will a non-playoff driver win Friday’s 15-lap feature? There are plenty of options. Her second victory of the Sport 4 season has defending champion Crystal Murray looking good heading for this week. With her 10 points, she’s joined by Jarrod Freitas (9), Mikey LeFort (8), Richie Johnson (7), Christine Cavallaro (6), Daniel Hayes (5), Taylor Bowser (4) and Henry Lavallee in the Sport 4 title battle. Lavallee, one of the most consistent cars all year, missed the race last week and has a whole to dig out of if he wants to advance to the second round. The Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Pure Stock playoffs opener went to Danny Massa, earning him 10 points. Scott Cestodio (9), Sam Lincoln (8), Jared Cordeira (7), Greg Perry (6), Ethan Souza (5), Mike Henriques (4) and Timmy Ouellette (3) also earned first round points. Henriques, who entered the playoffs inside the top-four in seeding, is in threat of being eliminated if he doesn’t find his groove this week in the 25-lap feature. Isaiah Newcomb’s dominant summer rolled into the first race of the playoffs last week, earning him 10 points with a Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars win. He’s joined by Josh Parsons (9), Brendan LaBelle (8), Jacob Burns (7), Richie Helger Jr (6), Nicholaus Bulkeley (5), Chase Silvia (4) and Mason Tessier (3). Silvia and Tessier, teammates, will have work to do if they want to get back in and advance to round two. Remember, for both Fast Friday and NASCAR Saturday, the feature winner of the race may be a non-playoff driver. However, the highest finishing playoff driver still earns 10 points. Last week, Fast Friday saw playoff drivers win all the races. On NASCAR Saturday, that was the case in all but two divisions, with Dave Darling winning in the Chaz Auto Body Sport Trucks and Colbey Fournier winning in the Pro Stocks. In the event of a tie on either night for the final advancing spot, Seekonk Speedway will revert back to the regular season point standings, with the highest of the two drivers from the regular season advancing. Speaking of the Trucks, even with ignition problems, Radical Rick Martin, the defending champion, finished second. His 10 points earned as the highest finishing playoff driver puts him in a good spot heading for Saturday. Jake Vanada (9), Brittany Campbell (8), Darryl Church (7), Mike Cavallaro (6), Amy Arsenault (5), Bobby Tripp (4) and Mike Duarte (3) are also in the playoffs. Duarte, who was one of the most consistent drivers all year, will need to climb back in or he will be outside looking in instead of chasing his second Truck title. Jacob “Rowdy” Burns is chasing titles in both the Legends Cars and Late Models in 2023, and kicked off his Late Model title chase with a victory on Saturday, grabbing 10 points. Charlie Rose had a strong second-place finish (9), while Mark Jenison started his title defense with a third-place finish, earning 8 points. Vinnie Arrenegado (7), Connor Souza (6), Chase Belcher (5), Luke LeBrun (4) and Tyler Tomassi (3) are also playoff contenders. LeBrun, who finished the regular season with multiple wins, is outside looking in heading for the weekend. The Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Sportsman photo-finish came down to two playoff drivers - winner Adam Pettey (10) and Ryan Lineham (9). Steve Axon’s third-place finish earned the defending champion 8 playoff points, while Chad Baxter and Colby Lambert are next, tied with 6. Craig Pianka, the defending champion, has five, while right now, Don Perry (4) and Randy Moretti (3) are outside and needing to get their way in if they want to advance. The tie in the Sportsman between Baxter and Lambert is the result of a technical, safety infraction found on Baxter’s ride post-race last week. He was docked one playoff point for the safety violation, but retained his finish in the feature. The Pro Stocks playoff battle earned Bobby Pelland 10 points, while Tom Scully Jr. got 9, Dylan Estrella 8 and Dick Benoit 7. Mike Rotondo (6), Mike Brightman (5), Mark Jenison (4) and Rick Martin (3) are also involved in the playoffs. Can Jenison, the defending Pro Stock champion, claw his way in or will he end up eliminated this weekend? Tickets for both Fast Friday and NASCAR Saturday are available at SeekonkSpeedway.com for this weekend and the remaining three weeks of the season. Playoff action in round two takes place September 22-23 and the DAV Championship nights for both nights is set for September 29-30. After a battle for the entirety of the race between Colbey Fournier and Bobby Pelland III for the lead, it was Fournier who used the outside lane to gain the edge that mattered: the lead on the final lap. Fournier picked up his first win of the season. He didn’t make the playoffs, after missing multiple weeks in the middle of the season due to a wreck. However, he’s back on top in Seekonk’s top division, starting the month of September with a win. Pelland and fellow playoff driver Tom Scully Jr. finished second and third in the race. Two more playoff drivers, Dylan Estrella and Dick Benoit, followed in fourth and fifth. Kenny Spencer, Mike Rotondo, Mike Brightman, Mark Jenison and Rick Martin completed the top-10. The Pro Stocks will return to the track on Saturday, September 16, for the second race in the first round of the Sunoco Drive For The Cup. SEEKONK, Mass. — Jacob “Rowdy” Burns was the dominant factor on Saturday night in the Late Models at Seekonk Speedway. In the opener of the Sunoco Drive For The Cup, Burns used the inside lane after starting third to grab the lead and drove away into the night to score the win. Burns, who is also chasing the championship in the Legends Cars on Fast Friday, is showing he’s going to be a major threat to win the Late Model title on NASCAR Saturday. Charlie Rose finished second in the 30-lap race, while Mark Jenison held off a hard charge from Vinnie Arrenegado to finish third. Arrenegado followed in the fourth spot, while Richie Murray settled for a top-five finish in fifth. Connor Souza, Scott Serydysnki Jr., Chase Belcher, Luke LeBrun and Tyler Tomassi finished the top-10. The Late Models will return to the track on Saturday, September 16, for the second race in the first round of the Sunoco Drive For The Cup. SEEKONK, Mass. — The Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Sportsman continue to impress. Saturday night, in the first round of the Sunoco Drive For The Cup, it was Adam Pettey and Ryan Lineham battling it out for the win in the 25-lap feature at Seekonk Speedway. In the final corner, Lineham tried the cross-over move to get under Pettey, but couldn’t make it work. The two went side-by-side for many laps down the stretch of the race with Pettey coming out on top and Lineham second. Steve Axon, another playoff driver, had a great seat to watch the battle and finished in third. Chad Baxter and Colby Lambert crossed the line fourth and fifth. Jimmy “Pepe” Silvia was sixth, with Craig Pianka, Doug Benoit, Chris Rioux and Kaleb Marcou finishing the top-10. The Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Sportsman will return to the track on Saturday, September 16, for the second race in the first round of the Sunoco Drive For The Cup. SEEKONK, Mass. — After running in the Truck division when he first started racing at Seekonk Speedway many years ago, Dave Darling went to the Pro Stocks and won eight championships. Saturday night, he was back in the Chaz Auto Body Sport Trucks and parked in Victory Lane in the first round of the Sunoco Drive For The Cup. Although Darling isn’t a Truck playoff driver, he was able to grab the feature win in the 25-lap race on Saturday night. Rick Martin was the highest finishing playoff driver in second, while Jake Vanada finished third. They were followed by Brittany Campbell and Darryl Church, two more playoff drivers, in fourth and fifth. Ethan Heilborn, Mike Cavallaro, Amy Arsenault, Bobby Tripp, Lenny Guy and Tom Scully III finished off the top-10. The Chaz Auto Body Sport Trucks will return to the track on Saturday, September 16, for the second race in the first round of the Sunoco Drive For The Cup. Friday night, in the first race of the Sunoco Drive For The Cup, Newcomb was out front right from lap one and never looked back. He started third, made a three-wide move to take the lead, and wasn’t to be denied in the final laps on multiple restarts. Newcomb, who ended the regular season second in points, is off to a strong start in his chase for the track championship in the playoffs. He was followed to the line after 25 laps by Josh Parsons and Brendan LaBalle, also playoff drivers. Three more playoff drivers followed in fourth through sixth: Jacob Burns, Richie Helger Jr and Nicholaus Bulkeley. Cole Robie, Chase Silvia, PJ Evans and Kevin Davis finished off the top-10. The Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars will return to the track on Friday, September 15, for the second race in the first round of the Sunoco Drive For The Cup. Massa captured the win in the opener of the Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment playoff battle, holding off Scott Cestodio in the final laps to score the win. Ideally, Massa would have had some clear sailing early in the race. But, Cestodio was there right from the early going. He tried everything to get around, but wasn’t able to do it and opened his playoffs with a strong second-place finish. Sam Lincoln settled for third, a strong run for him, with Ed Gould and Jared Cordeira, who went to the rear early and had to charge back through the field, finishing fifth. Greg Perry, Ethan Souza, Bobby Bettencourt, Don Courtemanche and Mike Henriques finished off the top-10. The Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Pure Stocks will return to the track on Friday, September 15, for the second race in the first round of the Sunoco Drive For The Cup. But, when the checkered flag went into the air, it was Ryan Vanasse Jr. rolling across the line first, for his eighth win of the season in the No. 11. Vanasse worked the outside lane for much of the race. Once he got out front, he had to hold off his cousin, Collin Vanasse, who was right there on his bumper. Ryan was able to accomplish the task to add another win to his second in the first race of the first round of the Sunoco Drive For The Cup and kick-off his championship bid on top. Collin finished second, a strong opening to his own playoff bid. Andrew Gomes charged to the front to finish third, with Brent Robidoux and Bryson Robidoux, brothers, finishing fourth and fifth. Nathan Rioux, Mikey LeFort III, Brody Wakefield, Zachary Keith and Moribito finished off the top-10 after 15 laps. The Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Outlaws will return to the track on Friday, September 15, for the second race in the first round of the Sunoco Drive For The Cup.
