![]() After an over-two-month delay, the American-Canadian Tour is set to revisit Seekonk Speedway for the 48th running of the Spring Green after poor weather delayed the original June date to this Saturday, August 19th. The Tour championship battle continues to heat up as they invade the iconic Cement Palace and take on a strong batch of NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series teams ready to defend their home turf. Both sides will be hotly contesting in search of one of the American-Canadian Tour’s top annual prizes. Seekonk Speedway has long held its place in American-Canadian Tour history and Saturday only adds to that significance. In 17 contested events since 1983, former back-to-back ACT Tour champion Scott Payea is the only driver to earn repeat wins at The Action Track of the East in back-to-back victories in 2016 and 2017. The venerable Massachusetts oval has annually been anyone’s game in each Tour showing with only one thing in common so far, no Seekonk regular has carried the ACT checkers at their home track. Vinny Arrenegado, Richie Murray, 2022 track champion Mark Jenison and 2019 ACT Rookie of the Year Ryan Kuhn, among others, are looking to change that statistic on Saturday by taking one of the Tour’s top-tier annual events. Seekonk will also be the sixth different facility to host the Spring Green after starting its years at the beloved Catamount Stadium in Milton, Vermont. After a one-off show at the iconic Sanair Super Speedway tri-oval in Quebec back in 1988, the Spring Green called Plattsburgh, New York’s Airborne Speedway home for many years before going to Vermont’s Devil’s Bowl Speedway and New Hampshire’s White Mountain Motorsports Park. Annually earning its lap-count based on the year contested, the Spring Green has held an interesting place in ACT history and Saturday’s 123-lap showdown will only add to that icon status. Defending American-Canadian Tour champion D.J. Shaw leads both the Tour standings and the Brookside Equipment Sales Southern New England Triple Crown standings after winning the Spring Sizzler 75 at Stafford Motor Speedway in May. Like Payea, Shaw will be looking for back-to-back Seekonk wins after stealing the win from young-gun Jacob ‘Rowdy’ Burns last fall. Milton CAT 250 winner Derek Gluchacki will be looking to gain more momentum at his hometrack on Saturday with Jimmy Renfrew Jr., Gabe Brown and Jonathan Bouvrette, among others, also looking to make gains in the standings. The American-Canadian Tour returns to the Bay State on Saturday, August 19th for the 48th running of the Spring Green 123 at Seekonk Speedway. All the top ACT travel teams will invade the Cement Palace to battle against the strong local defenders for a chance to join a wins-list of icons, including Dave Dion, Joey Kourafas, Junior Hanley and the Dragon Brothers. NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series will also be in action for the Pro Stocks and Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown finales for the Sportsman and Sport Trucks. Pit Gate opens at 2:00pm and Post Time is set for 6:00pm. Adult general admission set for $25, children 12-6 for $5 and kids five and under free with Pit Passes available at $30 with NASCAR license and $40 for non-license. SEEKONK, Mass. — After a wild and interesting 60-laps in the finale of the Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown Series for the Pro Stocks on Saturday, Bobby Pelland was the one celebrating two different victories. Mark Jenison, Tom Scully Jr., Danny Thibeault, Darryl Stampfl and Dylan Estrella completed the top-10 spots. Amy Arsenault and Ethan Heilborn weren’t far behind at the checkered flag and finished in fourth and fifth. The point standings, specifically around the cutline in the race towards the Sunoco Drive For The Cup, changed again on Saturday, with Bobby Tripp finishing 11th and Mike Cavallaro falling out early. The full point standings will be released on Monday with just two races remaining before the playoffs start on NASCAR Saturday. Tickets for all three days are available online at SeekonkSpeedway.com and are cheaper online than they will be at the gates on race day. Friday night, the Fast Friday Series heats up with the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandit and Outlaws, Sport 4’s, Helger’s Pure Stocks and Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars all on track. With just three regular season races remaining until the Sunoco Drive For The Cup playoff field is set, all divisions have drivers trying to hold off others for the final spot. In the last few Friday’s, racing has been hot on the track with exciting action in the Bandolero’s showcasing winners like Ryan Vanasse Jr., Collin Vanasse, Parker Davis and Sam Macedo. In the Sport 4’s, it’s been a season of winning for Mikey LeFort and Jarrod Freitas, but names like Crystal Murray have also won and been consistent each week. In the Pure Stocks, last week it was Greg Perry returning to Victory Lane for the first time this year, cementing himself in the playoff race, although at the bottom of the top eight. Is he showing he will be a threat to win the title and come on strong late in the summer? And in the Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars, Isaiah Newcomb seems to be on a mid-season tear with multiple wins in a row. Is he now the favorite heading into the Drive For The Cup? Or will these upcoming three weeks impact who will be contenders? Saturday includes two Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown Series finales, for the Pro Stocks and the Late Models. The Pro Stock final four includes David Darling, who won both of the first two, Dylan Estrella, Bobby Pelland and Dick Benoit. In the Late Models, Luke LeBrun, Charlie Rose, Mark Jenison and Jacob Burns will battle for the crown. Although everyone knows Dave Darling is the Pro Stock favorite, Estrella has two wins this year, Pelland has been fast and Benoit has been a welcomed surprise at the front of the field. In the Late Models, LeBrun and Burns have shown their dominance at times, while Jenison, the defending champion, has been quiet, and Rose has one feature win. Both of these extra-distance events, set for 45 laps for the Late Models and 60 for the Pro Stocks, will be exciting to watch. Also in action on Saturday night are the Helger’s Sportsman and the Chaz Auto Body Sport Trucks. Like all other Seekonk divisions, they are closing in on the playoff battle in September. Right now, both divisions have a driver sitting in eighth less than 20 points ahead of those behind. The Sportsman and Trucks will both run for 25 laps this week. Martin took advantage when two leaders got together in front of him in the final laps to take the lead, then held off Mike Cavallaro to score his first victory of the season in a wild 25-lap feature on Rhode Island Shriners night at the track. There was certainly a tight battle for the lead between Jeff Belyea and Mike Duarte for much of the second half of the feature. Belyea led the field across for the white flag with Duarte hot on his bumper, the two made contact, and both ended up in the rear. That setup a dash to the finish between Martin and Cavallaro, two former champions and division veterans, and Martin wasn’t to be denied. Cavallaro followed up his first win of the season a few weeks ago to finish second, with Brittany Campbell, a two-time season winner, crossing in third. Jake Vanada, also a two-time season winner, and Bobby Tripp followed to finish the top-five. Amy Arsenault, Darryl Church, Ethan Heilborn, Tommy Scully III and Danny Thibeault completed the top-10. The Chaz Auto Body Sport Trucks will be back on track on Saturday, July 29 for another 25-lap feature. For more information on Seekonk Speedway, visit SeekonkSpeedway.com and follow the track on social media for the latest news and updates. SEEKONK, Mass. — The second round of the Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown Series for the Pro Stocks came down to the final laps, and it was a thrilling finish that marked the end of the 60-lap feature when the checkered flag went into the air.
Dylan Estrella used the outside lane on a restart inside the final 10 laps to gain the edge over Mike Brightman, and then had to hold Brightman off in the final circuits to take the win. Brightman led much of the race, but the late caution gave Estrella one more shot, and the Everett’s Auto Parts driver didn’t disappoint. David Darling rebounded from early trouble to chase up through the field and finish third, while Bobby Pelland and Dick Benoit completed the top-five after 60 circuits. Benoit challenged inside the podium for much of the middle of the race, continuing to show speed in his No. 47 machine. Kevin Casper, Mark Jenison, Tommy Adams, Mike Rotondo and Billy Brady finished off the top-10 spots. The Pro Stocks will be back on track on Saturday, August 12 for another feature. They will be off next Saturday, July 29, but many of the regulars will run with the Pro All Star Series in the 150-lap contest. Seekonk Speedway has a full card of racing scheduled this Saturday, July 1, as Fast Friday takes the week off and the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series divisions take center stage. Headlined by the $2,000 to win American Racer Pro Stock 75, the night also includes the second round of Everett’s Triple Crown Series action for the Helger’s South Coast Power Sportsman, the Chaz Auto Body Sport Trucks and Late Models. The Pro Stocks returned to competition for the first time in almost a month on June 24, competing in round one of the Everett’s Triple Crown. David Darling returned to his dominant ways, jumping out front just before halfway and never looking back. Even though he’s running part-time, he’s the favorite again this week as he returns for the $2,000 to win American Racer 75 showdown. Colbey Fournier and Bobby Pelland III joined him on the podium last week — two drivers that have shown early in the season their packages are improved from 2022. Both are expected to win this season. Mike Brightman and Dylan Estrella already have wins, joining Darling, while names like Rick Martin, Tommy Adams, Tom Scully Jr and others would love to get their first of the season in the special event. American Racer is the tire supplier for Seekonk’s Pro Stocks and Late Models. They have worked tremendously with the track through tire shortages, the COVID pandemic and many other challenges the last few seasons. They are proud to present this special $2,000 to win race with $1,500 on the line for second and $1,100 for third and a full purse throughout the field. “We’re always excited for this race and appreciate Seekonk Speedway for all of their efforts and having this event on the schedule again this year,” Bill Galloway of American Racer Tires, said. “The Pro Stock division at Seekonk is one of the most competitive in all of New England when it comes to the top divisions. We are looking forward to watching them battle for some extra cash in their extra-distance American Racer 75 race.” On top of the Pro Stocks, the Sportsman also take center stage with their 35-lap feature in the Triple Crown Series. Back in round one, Steve Axon and Chad Baxter battled side-by-side for many laps to the finish, with Axon inching him out for the win. The division is also coming off one of the most exciting races in the last decade this past weekend, with a four-wide battle on the final lap that saw Colby Lambert come out on top. Jimmy “Pepe” Silvia was back at the top of the division for the first time in many years and names like Adam Pettey, Baxter, Axon and more will be looking to score this Saturday night. Don’t miss the main event for one of the most exciting divisions in all of New England. The Late Models are all chasing Luke LeBrun through the last two races, as the driver of the No. 27 has won them both. Jacob “Rowdy” Burns and Chase Belcher were on the podium with him last week. Early in the season, LeBrun leads defending champion Mark Jenison by five points, Burns by 12 and Belcher by 16. Vinnie Arrenegado, Corey Fanning, Charlie Rose and others will be back this week for another run. After a photo finish last week, Brittany Campbell picked up her second win of the season in the Chaz Auto Body Sport Trucks, holding off Mike Duarte in a wild dash to the line. As the championship points continue to update heading for the Sunoco Drive For The Cup, Duarte now leads Campbell by seven points at the top. Duarte, a former champion, has top-five finishes in all events so far this season. This Saturday, the division returns for 25 laps. Look for these two drivers and Rick Martin, Darryl Church, Jake Vanada, Amy Arsenault, Tom Scully III, Bobby Tripp and others in their main event. Fans should begin watching the point standings entering July. With the end of August right around the corner, when the field will be set for the Sunoco Drive For The Cup in each division, the battle to make the top eight will continue to spice up around the cutoff point. Tickets for NASCAR Saturday racing at Seekonk Speedway this weekend and for all track events for 2023 are available today at SeekonkSpeedway.com. Fans are encouraged to purchase in advance to skip the lines on race day and also save a few bucks on their ticket pricing.
