SEEKONK, Mass. — The Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Sportsman may have run their feature after the Whelen Modified Tour, but it was one fans did not want to miss. And in the final stretch run to the finish, the fans saw a show worth the price of admission. In the end, after 25 laps, it was Scott Serydynski Jr. carrying the checkered flag. Serydynski made a late move to take the lead, then held off all challengers to score the feature win. Colby Lambert and Mike Mitchell both started deep in the field and both made their way up through, ending up on the podium in second and third. Doug Benoit and Tyler Almeida followed, finishing fourth and fifth. Josh Hedges charged through the field, after winning race one of the season, and finished sixth in race two. He was followed by Adam Pettey, who led many laps on Saturday, Rob Kohler, Jimmy “Pepe” Silvia and Jeremy Lambert. The Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Sportsman will be back on track for round one of the Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown on Saturday, June 8. ![]() SEEKONK, Mass. — Tim Bolger was in the right place at the right time on Saturday night, and had a Truck filled with speed to get the job done. In the 25-lap Chaz Auto Body Sport Truck race at Seekonk, Bolger jumped out to the lead early, and was ahead of some trouble behind him throughout the race. As the race winded down, it was clear Bolger was going to be tough to beat. The former Fast Friday regular picked up his first career Sport Truck win on NASCAR Saturday. He was followed to the line by Amy Arsenault, a former graduate of Fast Friday herself, finishing in second. Jake Vanada was third, while Mike Duarte and Dane Saritelli followed. Tom Scully III, Marissa Morgan, Rick Martin, Mike Cavallaro and Steven Buckley were also in the top-10. The Chaz Auto Body Sport Trucks will be back on track for 25 laps on Saturday, June 8. SEEKONK, Mass. -- Matt Hirschman was visibly disappointed when he made his selection during the redraw for the J&R Precast 150 at Seekonk Speedway on Saturday night. After setting the fastest time of the day in qualifying, Hirschman would forgo the pole position by drawing the lowest starting position possible, eighth. This left Hirschman with 150 laps to work his way up from the middle of the pack at a 0.333-mile facility where track position is paramount.
Hirschman predominantly relied on skill instead of luck to surge towards the front of the field. After methodically climbing to second, Hirschman emerged victorious in an intense restart duel with his Northampton, Pennsylvania, neighbor Austin Beers to obtain his second consecutive NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour victory at Seekonk. “We had to work for that one for sure,” Hirschman said. “[Seekonk] is always a challenging track. The characteristics change throughout the race, but the characteristics of my car changed throughout the race. It came in good on the restart and I was able to go side-by-side with Austin and get past him.” Hirschman joined an exclusive list of drivers who have multiple Seekonk wins in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. The only other member of that group is Doug Coby, whose triumphs came in 2017 and 2019, respectively. Even with his odds of a victory hindered by a poor draw, Hirschman never doubted his ability to find his way towards the front. Hirschman needed a caution to mount a challenge for the lead. Unlike earlier at the redraw, luck was on Hirschman’s side when a spin by Tyler Catalano brought out the first and only caution of the night with 30 laps remaining. Hirschman held his own on the top side against Beers, who lost the lead after slight contact with the No. 60 caused him to briefly lose control of his No. 64. Beers held on to finish second, but he felt dejected knowing he was only a few laps away from claiming a win at the same track where his father Eric picked up his maiden NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour victory in 2005. Hirschman considered himself lucky his first victory of 2024 came during Seekonk’s tribute weekend to Modified legend Bugsy Stevens, who passed away on May 20. He has long respected Stevens’ ability as a competitor and hopes to keep honoring his legacy with more Seekonk victories. “To finally get out on the road and have a big win, that’s overdue at least in my opinion,” Hirschman said. “Everybody kept working and we got it done tonight on a special night where we remembered Bugsy Stevens. It was an honor to be here.” NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour points leader Ron Silk placed third after starting 11th. He was followed by Stephen Kopcik and Justin Bonsignore. The rest of the top 10 finishers were Jacob Lutz, Kyle Bonsignore, Patrick Emerling, Jake Johnson and Matt Swanson. ![]() SEEKONK, Mass. — Mason Silva has been picking up the pace in the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandits each time he hits the track. On Friday night, in the second race of the 2024 season, Silva captured his first career win driving the No. 31 machine. Silva held on during a late restart after a wild race to roll into Victory Lane for the first time in his career, driving for Helger’s Racing. While Silva won, the 15-lap feature was filled with ups and downs for many competitors, but kept fans on the edge of their seats. David Bernier was back on the podium in week two, finishing second in the No. 30. He was followed to the line by Jace Chaber, grabbing a strong run in third. Luka Dib, who won the first race of the year, finished fourth, while Ayla Martin completed the top-five. Kennedy Burrows and Carl Satterlund Jr. finished off the top-seven. ![]() SEEKONK, Mass. — Brody Wakefield has been off to an impressive start in New England during the 2024 season in the Bandolero division. Friday night, Wakefield rolled to his first career win in the Seekonk Speedway Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Outlaw division. Wakefield jumped out front early in the 15-lap feature and drove away in the final laps to take his No. 04 into the winner’s circle. Bryson Robidoux finished second, back on the podium for the second time in two weeks. Mike Hanafin, the winner of race one this season, wasn’t far behind either, finishing in third. Nick Uhrig Jr. also had a strong run, grabbing fourth, while Allya Desomma rounded out the top-five after 15 circuits. Zacarias Kelley, Ryder Aguiar, Zachary Keith, Brady Connors and Jordan Duquette finished the top-10. ![]() SEEKONK, Mass. — Crystal Murray, the champion in the Sport 4 division the last two years, had a strong start to her season, finishing third last week. This week, she picked up the pace even more - picking up her first win of the season in the 25-lap main event. Murray jumped out front in the middle of the race and held on late to capture yet another feature win for her career. Matt Pion charged through the field after winning week one, and was back at the front in week two. He finished second in the No. 0, while Arthur Meack started on the pole, led some laps and finished in third. Sam Mattera and Tyler Duhancik weren’t far behind at the finish, grabbing fourth and fifth. Richie Johnson, Henry Lavallee, Taylor Bowser, Daniel Hayes and Mikey LeFort finished the top-10. ![]() SEEKONK, Mass. — It didn’t take long for Brent Robidoux to find Victory Lane in the Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Pure Stocks. In just his second career race, Robidoux rolled the outside lane to pass Mike Henriques for the lead, then drove away to capture his first career win. For a former Bandolero winner, Robidoux is quickly showing he will be just fine in the Pure Stocks. Henriques, who started on the pole, led laps and had a strong run, finishing second. Greg Perry, who had a mechanical failure in week one, rebounded to wrap the podium in third. He was followed by week one winner Jared Cordeira and Matthew Talbot to complete the top-five after 25 laps. Ethan Souza, Tim Ouellette, Justin Menard, Josh O’Hara and Jared Barishian finished the top-10. SEEKONK, Mass. — Richie Helger Jr. was back on top Friday night. Driving the Helger’s Racing No. 99, Richie jumped out front early and dominated the second half of the Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars 25-lap race. Helger picked up his first win of the new season, but it was his second career. Helger took the checkered flag first over Rodney Dowless Jr., who drove the Nick Lascuola Racing entry to a strong best career second-place finish. He was followed by fellow NLR driver Josh Parsons, who continued to show speed early in 2024 once again, and finished in third. Mason Tessier and opening week winner Jacob “Rowdy” Burns finished the top-five. Kevin Davis finished sixth, while former Seekonk Bandolero winner Ryan Vanasse Jr. made his Seekonk debut in a Legend Car and finished seventh. Brenden LaBelle, Jaden Hamilton and Steve Bowden finished the top-10. ![]() Seekonk Speedway would like to make fans, teams and competitors aware of the opportunities available to them with online digital passes for entry to the track this season. Through SeekonkSpeedway.com, fans can purchase grandstand admission passes online and put them into their Apple Wallet or print them at home, where they can use them to get in at the track on race day. The same goes for teams, drivers and crew members in the pit area. Fans or teams that complete this step will be able to speed up their entry on race day and avoid delays getting into the track. This is especially important for this Saturday, June 1, as the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour comes to town and lines are expected to be increased. Fans will not want to miss the special ceremony honoring the late “Bugsy” Stevens at 5:45PM. Pit passes are available in advance on the ticketing platform for purchase. The process is simple: people should go online to SeekonkSpeedway.com, click on tickets, and create an account through the software. Once the account has been created, purchase pit passes or grandstand tickets for respective events you are going to be attending. Upon completing purchase, a link will be sent to your email address with the passes. When opening the link, be sure to add them to your Apple Wallet, or print them at home, to bring with you on race day. On top of the ticketing platform, there are also some important notes fans and race teams should consider for upcoming events (and all events) at the Seekonk Speedway. No pets are allowed in the pit area or the grandstands. Seekonk Speedway also has a minor policy in place, unlike some other tracks. Any children that enter the pit area must be at least 15-years-old at the time of the event and all minor paperwork must be filled out and notarized prior to entry. Seekonk Speedway will not have anyone available to notarize paperwork on race day — it must be done ahead. There are no exceptions to this rule. There are no children under 15 allowed in the pit area. Any patrons over 18 must be able to prove their age at the pit booth on race day if asked. The Seekonk Speedway minor release form is available online at the link below. https://www.seekonkspeedway.com/uploads/1/3/0/4/130439230/2020-minor-release-form.pdf This also works for teams who would like to purchase passes for their entire team or a few crew members. Upon purchasing the passes, you are able to forward them into someone else’s email address name and they will be able to access them for themselves. Seekonk Speedway does appreciate your understanding in this evolution into the digital age. Anyone with questions is encouraged to call the office at 508-336-9559 during normal business hours. You can also visit SeekonkSpeedway.com today to collect tickets for all events during the season and find the latest information on the track. SEEKONK, Mass. — The month of May ends, and the month of June begins in a big way this weekend at Seekonk Speedway. On Friday night, the Fast Friday divisions hit the track for the second time this year chasing feature wins at 7 p.m. On NASCAR Saturday, the Whelen Modified Tour will be in town for the J&R Precast 150, while the Helger’s Sportsman, Chaz’s Sport Trucks and Late Models will also be in action beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tickets for both nights are available now online at SeekonkSpeedway.com. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour invades Seekonk on Saturday for the first and only visit of the season. All drivers are chasing Ron Silk in the Tour standings. Silk has three victories in the first five Whelen Modified Tour events of the season at New Smyrna, Thompson and Riverhead. Other winners this season include three-time series champion Justin Bonsignore (Richmond) and Jake Johnson (Monadnock). Jake is familiar with Seekonk Speedway fans as a multiple-time champion in the Fast Friday Legends Cars division and feature winner in the Pro Stocks and Late Models, who has now gone Modified racing. There will also be many other contenders in the field like Matt Hirschman, Doug Coby and more. Saturday’s racing also includes the first round of the Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown Series for the Late Models, set for 50 laps. Richie Murray dominated the second half of the season-opener on May 11 and will return looking to charge through the field and make it back-to-back. He will be closely challenged by names like Jacob “Rowdy” Burns, defending champion Vinnie Arrenegado, Luke Lebrun, Connor Souza and more. The extra-distance event will be the highlight of a full night of NASCAR Advance Auto Parts weekly racing. The Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Sportsman will also be on track for their second race of the year. Part-time campaigner Josh Hedges won the first one over Tyler Almeida. But, defending division champion Steve Axon and front-runner Adam Pettey will be looking to get back to the front this week. They will be joined by the Chaz’s Auto Body Sport Trucks, who have their own 25-lap event planned. Defending and seven-time Seekonk champion Rick Martin won the first race, but will have names like Mike Duarte, Darryl Church, Jake Vanada and others looking to take him down. Saturday night racing begins with a special ceremony for Carl “Bugsy” Stevens, a four-time Seekonk Speedway champion and also a historic NASCAR Modified champion, who passed away last week. Fans are encouraged to get to the track by 5 p.m. to make sure they do not miss the special ceremony. The ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by qualifying for the Whelen Modified Tour, then heat races. The Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars will headline the Fast Friday campaign, as a five-division card roars the Action Track of the East to life to end the work-week. The Legends are coming off a strong first race that saw defending champion Jacob “Rowdy” Burns capture the feature win over Richie Helger Jr and Mason Tessier. Not only will the Legends run 25 laps, but the Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Pure Stocks and Sport 4’s will do the same. In the Pure Stocks, the first event of the year went to defending champion Jared Cordeira, who jumped out early and dominated the show. He was joined on the podium at the end by Mike Henriques, who started last and charged through the field to finish second, and Brent Robidoux, a Rookie of the Year contender in the division. In the Sport 4 class, Matt Pion started off 2024 strong with his first career win. He’s heading back for week two looking for more, but names like Taylor Bowser, Crystal Murray and others will look to challenge. Both Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero divisions had a strong start to the year, with Luka Dib (Bandits) and Mike Hanafin (Outlaws) winning their first events. Naming just a few drivers to watch in these classes would be tough, as they both showcase Seekonk’s youth, rising talent. Both divisions will be on track on Friday for 15 lap races. Tickets for both nights are available online at SeekonkSpeedway.com. Friday racing begins at 7 p.m., while Saturday action goes green at 5:30 p.m. For more information on Seekonk Speedway, visit SeekonkSpeedway.com and follow the track on social media for the latest news and updates. |
