![]() SEEKONK, Mass. — The first half of the season definitely wasn’t what former Seekonk Speedway Pure Stock champion Greg Perry was looking for, but he seems to have turned the ship in the right direction. Perry picked up his first win of the season Friday night in the Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Pure Stocks, jumping out front early, passing Sam Lincoln for the lead. From there, Perry had to hold off the challenges of many behind him on multiple restarts, but he just wasn’t going to be denied. He was followed to the line at the finish by Nick Brightman and Scott Cestodio. Jared Cordeira and Sam Lincoln also were in the top-five at the finish of 25 laps. Mike Henriques, Danny Massa, Ethan Souza, Don Courtemanche and Timmy Ouellette completed the top-10. The Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Pure Stocks will be back on the track on Friday, August 11 for another 25-lap feature. ![]() SEEKONK, Mass. — It came down to the final laps in Friday’s Sport 4 feature at Seekonk Speedway, but it was two former champions battling it out for the feature win. Mikey LeFort and Crystal Murray raced nose-to-tail for the final five laps, with Murray trying her best to find a way around for the top spot. In the end, LeFort had the car in a good spot to get the job done. He picked up his third win of the season driving the No. 13, with Murray a close second at the finish. Justin Leduc finished in the third spot, another podium for him, while Richie Johnson and Jarrod Freitas weren’t far behind, finishing fourth and fifth. Henry Lavallee, Taylor Bowser, Jacob Budznya, Sam Mattera and Christine Cavallaro were the rest of the top-10 finishers. The Sport 4’s will be back on the track on Friday, August 11 for another 25-lap feature. On Friday, he pocketed yet another win in the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Outlaw division, but this one didn’t come easy. Vanasse had to hold off the charges of Ben Moribito and Andrew Gomes over the final laps to take the win in the 15-lap feature. The middle portion of the race had multiple yellows, and Moribito and Vanasse swapped the lead back and forth a few times. Once Vanasse got out front the final time, he wasn’t to be denied. He would take the win over Andrew Gomes and Moribito, who joined him on the podium at the finish. Zachary Keith was fourth and Bryson Robidoux followed to complete the top-five. They were followed by Collin Vanasse, RJ Murphy, Brent Robidoux, Abbie Badejo and Dylan Calabro. The Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Outlaws will be back on the track on Friday, August 11 for another 15-lap feature. In the 15-lap Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandit feature, Davis held off a late charge from Nick Uhrig Jr. to win his third race of the season - but his first since week two, after grabbing the first two of the year. When Davis took the white flag out front, Uhrig closed in and took the bottom lane entering turn one. The two drivers went side-by-side for the final lap, with Davis edging out across the line at the finish by inches. Sam Macedo charged to the third spot, where he would finish, with Mason Silva and Mike Hanafin finishing off the top-five. Behind them, Ryder Aguiar, Carl Satterlund Jr. and Alya Martin finished the field. The Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandits will be back on the track on Friday, August 11 for another 15-lap feature. Normally on the same weekend for both Fast Friday and NASCAR Saturday, the final events for each division have been split on Saturday due to Mother Nature impacting racing earlier this season. The Triple Crown finales for all nine of Seekonk’s divisions will take place between August 12 and August 19. On Saturday, August 12 the Pro Stocks and the Late Models will run their final events. On Friday, August 18, both Bandolero divisions, the Sport 4’s, Pure Stocks and Legends Cars will crown their champions. On Saturday, August 19, the Sportsman and Sport Trucks crown their champions. The Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown “chase” style format pins four drivers against each other in the finale to decide who will be champion. The highest finishing of the four in the final feature will win the Everett’s Triple Crown. “The Triple Crown Series tradition has been rolling at Seekonk Speedway for many years,” Ed St. Germain, Director of Business Development for Seekonk Speedway, said. “It gives our drivers and our fans a mid-season championship to look out for. Big thanks to Everett’s Auto Parts, Roy and their entire team for their continued support of this series.” Below are the finalists for all nine of Seekonk’s divisions heading into the Everett’s Triple Crown round three. Seekonk Speedway will kick-off the month of August in a big way this weekend - with two nights of action planned. On Friday, August 4, Fast Friday returns to the track for weekly racing as the championship battles continue to heat up heading into the playoffs. On Saturday, August 5, the Midsummer Thrill Show hits the track with the thrills and spills of Seekonk Speedway back on display for a full house of fans. Friday’s racing begins at 7 p.m. and tickets are available online in advance for just $10 per person or $13 at the gates on race day. Thrill Show action begins at 5 p.m. and tickets are also available online at SeekonkSpeedway.com for this show. Fans who purchase in advance will pay $25 in advance for adults, $12 in advance for ages 6-12 and kids five and under and parking are free. Prices are a bit higher at the gates on race day. On Fast Friday, battles towards September’s Sunoco’s Drive For The Cup will continue to heat up this week. The Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandits and Outlaws will both be back on track, coming off events that saw a driver repeat as 2023 winner. Last week in the Bandits it was defending champion Sam Macedo on top, while Collin Vanasse added his second win of the year in the Outlaws. Will someone new become a first-time winner this week in Seekonk’s youngest divisions? The Sport 4 division also had someone repeat last week, as Jarrod Freitas rocketed to his third win of the season, leading the class. As he gets ready to chase the championship, can Freitas add yet another this week? Or can someone like Richie Johnson park his car in Victory Lane for the first time in his career after a podium last time out? The Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Pure Stocks chased Scott Cestodio the first three weeks of the season, but then four different drivers went to Victory Lane. Last week, Cestodio was back on top for win number four. As August begins, multiple drivers like Sam Lincoln and Greg Perry have shown speed in recent weeks, but haven’t won yet this year. The Pure Stocks also include one of the closest Seekonk battles around the cutline to decide who will advance to the playoffs. And in the Nick’s Pit Stop Legends, Isaiah Newcomb was on top again last week in the No. 22. He’s closely been chased lately by names like Josh Parsons, Richie Helger Jr., Nicholaus Bulkeley, Jacob “Rowdy” Burns and more. Who will win Friday’s 25-lap race? On Saturday, the Midsummer Thrill show, in part with East Coast Towing and Recovery, will showcase the Great American Trailer Race. Known as one of the top events of the Seekonk Speedway season, the Trailer race is definitely one you will not want to miss. The event also includes the East Coast Towing & Recovery Spectator Drags, the Crazy Figure 8 division, the Car & Truck Enduro Races, Car & Truck Enduro Drags and the Powder Puff division. This event is one fans love every year and Saturday will be the perfect time to visit the Speedway as the summer heats up. For more information on Seekonk Speedway, and to purchase tickets for all remaining 2023 events, visit SeekonkSpeedway.com. Fans are also encouraged to follow the track on social media for the latest news and updates from the track. As the month of August begins this weekend at Seekonk Speedway, NASCAR Saturday divisions will not be on track due to the Midsummer Thrill Show. However, Fast Friday classes return to racing on August 4, with just four scheduled events remaining before the fields are set for the Sunoco Drive For The Cup championship battle in September.
Let’s take a look at where the cutline stands in each division heading into August. The battle to make the playoffs or just miss it by a few points is on at the Action Track of the East. BANDOLERO BANDITS After another 15-lap feature last week won by defending champion Sam Macedo, the battle is now closer near the bubble in the Bandolero Bandits. Macedo is comfortable on top of the standings, tied with Nick Uhrig Jr. for the lead, while Mike Hanafin and Parker Davis aren’t far behind. Mason Silva is in fifth, with a 22-point gap ahead of Ryder Aguiar, who currently holds the final spot in sixth. Remember, the Bandolero Bandits and Outlaws will have a six-car playoff field, not eight like the other divisions. Just outside the cutline is Luka Dib, but only by 8 points. Carl Satterlund Jr. is in eighth but will continue to hope others have trouble if he’s going to have a chance, now 44 points back. The race for sixth in the Bandits is going to be one to watch in August, as the eight-point gap is only four positions in the feature finishing order. BANDOLERO OUTLAWS The battle at the bubble in the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Outlaw division is really close with four races left. Ryan Vanasse Jr., Collin Vanasse, Bryson Robidoux, Brent Robidoux and Andrew Gomes currently hold the top-five positions. Gomes is ahead of sixth-place Dylan Calabro by 28 points, a margin of 14 positions on the track and probably feels good. Without trouble, expect the top-five to advance. The real battle is now between Calabro and Zachary Keith. Right now, Calabro leads for the final spot by just six points. It looks like this one is going to go down to the wire to decide who makes it. Mikey LeFort III is in eighth, but 40 points out, with RJ Murphy right behind, 46 back. Those two will be hoping for someone in front of them to have trouble at least twice if they want to get in. SPORT 4’s The top-five drivers should feel comfortable in the Sport 4 division heading for August. Right now, Jarrod Freitas leads over Henry Lavallee, Crystal Murray, Richie Johnson and Taylor Bowser. She has the fifth spot by 16 points over Daniel Hayes in sixth, with Christine Cavallaro just two points back of Hayes in seventh. After running last week, Mikey LeFort bumped himself into the playoff cut, now leading Justin Leduc for the final spot by 10 points. Leduc has really stormed to the front of the division the last few weeks, with two wins in a row. If his pace keeps up, he could find himself in. LeFort is just 20 points back of Christine Cavallaro for seventh and will look to run forward to avoid Leduc chasing him down. Just outside the cutline as well in 10th is Tyler Duhancik, who had trouble last week. Certainly one of the fastest cars in the division, Duhancik is now 22 points back from the bubble and will be looking to gain major ground quickly. Remember, eight drivers will advance in the Sport 4’s. This one includes one driver who is hot right now sitting outside the cut, and one in 10th you expect would be in when it comes time for September. 6 Daniel Hayes - 290 7 Christine Cavallaro - 288 8 Mikey LeFort - 268 9 Justin Leduc - 250 10 Tyler Duhancik - 246 PURE STOCKS Although Scott Cestodio won for the fourth time last week, Ethan Souza and Danny Massa are ahead of him in the Helger’s Pure Stock championship race. Mike Henriques and Sam Lincoln are tied in fourth and fifth, also feeling comfortable heading for the stretch run. Timmy Ouellette is a one-time feature winner in sixth and Jared Cordeira is only six-points behind him in seventh. Cordeira leads by 36 points over the bubble and should feel rather comfortable, along with all of those ahead of him. Then, it gets more interesting. Greg Perry found some speed last week and got back on the podium, as the former champion tries to make the playoffs in 2023. Right now, Perry is tied with Don Courtemanche for the final spot. Tied - you read that right! Both with 258 points, they lead Josh Badach and Matt Talbot, who are 10th and 11th. Badach is 26 points back, while Talbot is 36. Right now, Perry must be the favorite in the race for eighth. With championship experience, Perry struggled much of the first half of the year. But, he seems to have found his groove. Will it be enough to get in or can Don find more speed? 7 Jared Cordeira - 294 8 Don Courtemanche - 258 9 Greg Perry - 258 10 Josh Badach - 232 11 Matt Talbot - 222 LEGENDS CARS Jacob Burns has pulling away with the top spot in the Legends Cars for most of the season. He’s comfortably ahead of recent winner Isaiah Newcomb by 24 points, with Nicholas Bulkeley in third and Richie Helger Jr. fourth. Helger is ahead of the cut by 60 points, feeling comfortable. Behind him, Mason Tessier and Brendan LaBelle follow. LaBelle missed two races but still leads by 32 points over the cutline. Look out for Josh Parsons, who also won a race, but is now seventh, 22 points ahead of the cutline himself. It’s a battle of the Silvia’s in the current standings for eighth. Chase Silvia leads Jimmy “Pepe” Silvia by 30 points, with Kevin Davis now 40 points back. The Legends Cars division could go down to the wire for the final spot themselves. 7 Josh Parsons - 272 8 Chase Silvia - 250 9 Jimmy silvia - 220 10 Kevin Davis - 210 The four weekends in August will decide who will make the Seekonk Sunoco Drive For The Cup in 2023 for Fast Friday. Don’t miss it as drivers battle each Friday at 7PM looking to make the playoffs!
