WESTGATE RETURNS TO WINNING FORM IN SPORT 4

SEEKONK, Mass. — After two weeks of coming close, but losing it in the final laps, former Sport 4 champion David Westgate wasn’t going to let this one slip from his fingertips. He started from fourth, took the lead early, and had to hold off the hot charges of Crystal Murray before he sealed the win.
The Fast Friday season hit week seven, with no fans in the grandstands due to COVID-19 protocols in place by the state of Massachusetts.
Henry Lavalle and Tyler Almeida led the 15-car field to the green flag, with Lavalle showing the way for the first three laps. However, Westgate made quick work of Almeida, taking second and passing Lavalle for the top spot on lap four.
From there, it was clear sailing for the rest of the first half of the race. Murray, who started sixth, took her time working through the front of the field, and got to the back bumper of Westgate when the field crossed at lap 17.
Murray tried to find a way around the No. 49, using the bottom, hoping Westgate would make a mistake. Westgate slipped up a few times, with Murray looking inside, but Westgate would slam the door shut and hang on for the win. Murray finished second, her best effort of the season, coming close to her second career win.
Points leader Mike Lefort was third, followed by Karlin Levesque and Almeida. Tyler Duhancik finished sixth, while Lavalle, Jack Dumas, Christine Cavallaro and Taylor Bowser rounded out the top-10.
The Sport 4 division returns to the track next Friday, September 25, with another 15-lap feature. The season is down to the final three weeks.
