SHAW CONTINUES DOMINATION OF SPORT TRUCKS

The Chaz Auto Body Sport Trucks were back on the track Saturday evening after taking last week off for the Memorial Day Thrills Show, with Barry Shaw Jr. picking up where he left off prior to the break, as he claimed his fourth victory in five races this season.

Shaw began the 25-lap feature race on the outside of Row 4, with Rick Martin – the only truck driver to defeat Shaw this year – on his inside.  The duo marched their way up to the front as soon as the green flag flew in the summer air in Seekonk, with Martin marching up to third after just four laps.  The front was comprised of Bobby Busch Jr. and Len Sousa at the start of the contest, but Busch had issues from the beginning and fell off the pace quickly.  Brittany Campbell moved her way up from fifth to second after one lap, and took over the top spot on Lap 5, with Sousa also moving in the wrong direction during the early stages of the race.  The two Lenny’s, Sousa and Guy, made contact near Turn 2 on Lap 7 to draw out the first yellow flag of the evening.

Campbell held the lead at the restart, with Amy Arsenault on her side on the front row and the two winners this season – Martin and Shaw – lurking closely behind in third and fourth respectively.  Shaw made his move, taking second on Lap 8, while both Martin and Mike Duarte drove to the inside lane to get past Arsenault for third and fourth place.  Campbell did a stellar job holding off the two chargers through the midway point of the race, with Sousa drawing another caution flag when he spun out on Lap 14.

The subsequent restart had Shaw on the outside of Campbell up front, but the veteran was able to get speed out of that top groove to take over his familiar place at the top of the standings with 10 laps remaining.  Arsenault made her move back up to fourth with nine laps left, and after a third caution flag due to another spin by Sousa, she stormed back to second past Martin and Campbell on Lap 18.  Martin and Duarte utilized the faster inside lane to get by Arsenault with four laps remaining, and a three-wide bid landed Duarte in second place as the checkered flag flew.  Duarte snapped his streak of three consecutive fifth-place finishes, while Martin garnered his fifth straight Top-4 placing of the year.

The top 10 was Shaw, Duarte, Martin, Arsenault, Campbell, Mike Cavallaro, Darryl Dutch, Guy, Johnny Silva, and Ethan Heilborn.  The Chaz Auto Body Sport Trucks will be back in action on Saturday, June 12th for the second race of the Phil’s Propane Triple Crown Series.  The 35-lap feature is also a part of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series.
