A returning champion and a driver looking to finally score his first Pure Stock win. Scott Cestodio and Joey Morrissette battled hard for the victory in the Helger’s Southcoast Power Equipment Pure Stock feature as part of the Fast Friday opener, with Cestodio coming out on top of a brawl in the final laps. In his first full-time season back after years away, Cestodio made an early point that he would be the favorite.

The Fast Friday season kicked off without any spectators in attendance due to restrictions from the state of Massachusetts due to COVID-19. All social distancing protocols were followed and all patrons followed guidance from an Executive Order in the state of Massachusetts surrounding face coverings.
Emily Brightman and Max Bergstrom led the Pure Stock field to the green, with Brightman leading the first lap, but Morrissette, who started third, quickly took the lead on lap two. Morrissette would pace the field for much of the distance, but couldn’t quite hold on for the checkered flag. Cestodio, who started seventh, quickly worked his way into the top five, and took the No. 01 to the outside lane to draw his way to the front.
Cestodio would pass for second on lap eight, then lead lap nine, but fall back to second for lap 10. He would cut to the bottom behind Morrissette on lap 16, and took the advantage by the time the field hit the line for lap 17. The two drivers would use their bumpers, moving each other up the track, while trying to inch to the finish. Morrissette would get the lead back on lap 21, while Cestodio got right up on the bumper.
On the final lap, a slight tap sent Morrissette up the track, and Cestodio to the bottom entering the final corner. Morrissette would attempt to get in behind Cestodio coming into the middle of turn three, but contact from behind sent him spinning. Cestodio would cross the line the victor, followed by defending champion Greg Perry, Danny Massa, Doug Benoit and Bergstrom.
Timmy Ouellette was sixth, followed by Mike Henriques, Jeremy Lambert, Morrissette and Justin Menard. The Pure Stocks return to the third-mile oval on Friday July 24th, for the second race of the 2020 season, with the first feature of the evening rolling out at 7 p.m.
