MASSA SHAKES MONKEY OFF HIS BACK FOR PURE STOCK WIN
BY KYLE SOUZA/SOUZA MEDIA
SEEKONK, Mass. — It felt like years, but it was only seven short races into the 2020 season before Danny Massa was able to score a victory in the Pure Stocks. Massa started fourth, worked his way to the lead, and left the rest of the field in his dust en route to the big win.
The Fast Friday season hit week seven, with no fans in the grandstands due to COVID-19 protocols in place by the state of Massachusetts.
Max Bergstrom took the green from pole position, and was able to lead the first two laps, before Massa rolled into control. Once he was out front, there was no one challenging Massa for the lead and the win. Massa started opening up his advantage more and more each lap, while Bergstrom, Mike Henriques and others hoped to hold off the challengers of others coming through the field.
One of those drivers charging forward was Doug Benoit, who slowly worked into the top-five, then the top-three and eventually up to second. Benoit was quick, but not quick enough, settling for second, over six seconds behind Massa. Jeremy Lambert, who won the week prior, was third, followed by Greg Perry and Henriques.
Joey Morrissette, Timmy Ouellette, Bergstrom, Arthur Meack and Sam Lincoln finished the top-10.
Massa picks up a $100 bonus for the win compliments of Lamberts Brothers Racing.
The Pure Stock division returns to the track next Friday, September 25, with another 25-lap feature. The season is down to the final three weeks.
