SEEKONK, Mass. — Jordan Lopes made a return to Seekonk Speedway’s Sport 4 division, and made it count, picking up the victory in the 30-lap feature as part of the Spring Villa Bonus race program. Lopes started inside the top five, and quickly worked his way to the front, taking the lead from former champion Dave Westgate on lap 12 for the final time and never looking back.
The Fast Friday program continued with its first race in the month of September, still without fans due to COVID-19 restrictions from the state of Massachusetts.
Daniel Hays and Westgate led the 16-car field to the green flag, with Westgate jumping out to the lead early, and setting the pace. Once Lopes got to the top spot, Crystal Murray would follow through to second, making her return to competition after heading off to college. It looked like the race would go green until the end, but a caution in the final 10 laps gave everyone one more chance at Lopes.
It wasn’t meant to be, as Lopes carried the checkered flag in his return to Seekonk action, with Tyler Almeida charging through to finish second. Tyler Duhancik would finish third, while Murray and Mike Lefort, using a borrowed ride, would finish fifth. Samantha Mattera, Henry Lavalle, Jared Bigos, Christine Cavallaro and Jack Dumas rounded out the top 10.
Courtesy of Spring Villa, Lopes collected $150 for his victory, while Almeida earned $100 and Duhancik collected $50.
The Sport 4’s return to the track next Friday, September 11, with a 25-lap feature.
