SEEKONK, Mass. — Ethan Dion’s path to his first career Seekonk Speedway championship wasn’t clearly marked until the final two weeks, but the driver of the No. 8 is celebrating as the 2020 titleholder. Dion finished second in the finale of the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandit season, earning his first title, while Darren Krantz Jr. rolled to another victory in the 15-lapper.

The abbreviated Seekonk Fast Friday season concluded with no spectators in the grandstands due to COVID-19 restrictions from the state of Massachusetts.

Krantz took the top spot from pole sitter Brent Robidoux on lap two and put on a clinic at the front of the field. The driver of the No. 31 has become quite the speed-demon in the Bandolero’s, clicking off laps well quicker than the rest of the field and running his fastest lap of the race on the final circuit.

But, a late caution could have easily took it all away.

While the field chased Krantz, who has more than one straightaway ahead, contact between Nick Uring Jr. and Mike Hanafin sent Hanafin spinning, drawing a yellow. It closed Robidoux, Dion and others back to the bumper of Krantz for the final restart, but it was no contest at the green. Krantz would roll to the victory, followed to the line by Dion, Robidoux, Joel Newcomb and Hanafin.

In the final point standings for the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandits, Dion would win over Richie Helger Jr., who struggled on the final night, finishing ninth, and Robidoux, who put together an impressive season. Dion was crowned the champion of the Everett’s Auto Parts Diamond Jubilee Series as part of the 75th anniversary season.

Seekonk Speedway wishes to thank division sponsor Seekonk Grand Prix for their continued support of the rising stars of the third-mile.
