SEEKONK, Mass. — With $350 on the line courtesy of Spring Villa and Lambert Brothers Racing, former Pure Stock champions Doug Benoit and Scott Cestodio weren’t about to give an inch. In the end, it was Benoit edging Cestodio by just a car length at the finish to take down the cash.
The Fast Friday program continued with its first race in the month of September, still without fans due to COVID-19 restrictions from the state of Massachusetts.
Benoit started outside the top-five, but worked his way to the second spot by lap 10, then inherited the lead on lap 16 when Danny Massa had to give up the lead due to a piece of his body hanging off the car. In the final laps, Benoit was trying to navigate a bit of lapped traffic, while Cestodio started his chase to try and find a way by.
It wasn’t enough, as Cestodio would have to settle for second, behind Benoit, who earned his third victory of the season. Jeremy Lambert finished third, after leading the early laps, followed by Mike Henriques and Massa. Unfortunately for Massa, after taking the lead on lap nine, he would lead until lap 14, when contact with a lapped car knocked some of his body. He would have to head to the pits and fix it and charge back to finish fifth.
Tommy Blackwell was sixth, followed by Arthur Meack, Sam Lincoln, Jared Cordeira and Emily Brightman.
The Pure Stocks return to the track next Friday, September 11, with a 25-lap feature.
