With just seven championship races remaining on the 2017 Fast Friday season, the Seekonk Youth Racing Association classes have some tight championship battles going on. In the Minicup class, there is currently a three way tie for the lead. Ava Chouinard and Maddie Harkin — two females — and tied at 304 points with Zachary Martinez going for the final stretch of the season.

All three drivers have 304 points and all of them have one victory on the season. Behind them, Nicholas Frechette sits fourth and Tommy Harris, who led the points earlier this season, rounds out the top five. In the Minicups, seven of the 10 drivers that have competed this season have visited Victory Lane. With just seven races left, we will see if some other drivers can carry a checkered flag. With a tight points battle, finishes at the front of the field will be crucial to anyone who wants to win the title.

In the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandits — a new division this year — Devin Deshaies holds a scant two point advantage in the championship standings. Although Devin has yet to visit Victory Lane, he has finished inside the top five in all of the seven races so far and his consistency is paying off for him. However, hot on his tail just two points back is RJ Marcotte, who has one victory on the season. Much like Deshaies, Marcotte has put together six top five finishes in the first seven races of the season.

The two drivers are currently way ahead of the rest of the field as well. In third, Nicholas Hovey has four victories behind the wheel of his No. 16, but sits 32 points out of the championship lead. Right now, Nathan Smith and Ryan Arieta round out the top five. Arieta has pushed his way into fifth in the standings with back-to-back wins on July 21 and July 28.

And in the other Bandolero division, the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Outlaws, Mason Tessier has been dominating the field. Tessier has four wins so far and holds an 18 point advantage in the championship standings. Behind him, Tyler Tomassi has one victory and is tied with Zachary Martinez. Those two drivers are both 18 points from the lead, but with seven races remaining, they have plenty of time to mount a charge towards the title. Connor Souza and former Minicup champion Evan Marchand round out the top five.

There are just seven races remaining on the 2017 Fast Friday championship schedule and the points battles will start to heat up even more. In each division, there is one final Phil’s Propane Triple Crown Series race and six regular features.

The Seekonk Youth Racing Association continues to showcase some of the upcoming talent at the third-mile and becoming a champion in one of these classes could propel a driver towards the Saturday night NASCAR racing.
