(Oct. 14, 2017) Today, Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island, in partnership with the Seekonk Speedway, hosted a surprise wish reveal for wish recipient, Shawn Doyle Jr., 16, of Swansea, MA, at the Speedway’s annual “Spooktacular” event.
Shawn, diagnosed with end stage renal disease, has always enjoyed restoring classic cars with his dad. Shawn’s wish is to have his 1970 Chevrolet Nova remodeled, a project he had begun working on with his dad before he got sick. As part of the wish reveal, the Seekonk Speedway surprised Shawn with an announcement over their loudspeaker that his wish was coming true. As Shawn’s newly remodeled car was driven out in front of the crowd, the crowd cheered for the teen and his family. A Seekonk Speedway driver then took Shawn and his dad on a victory lap around the track in the newly remodeled Chevy Nova. Shawn’s car was later displayed on the midway, where event attendees could meet Shawn in person and get a closer look at the vehicle.
Earlier this year, Shawn received a new kidney from his dad and underwent a life-changing kidney transplant. His heartfelt wish brought hope and joy to him and his family, and this special day provided memories that will last a lifetime.
