Friday night, we kicked-off the month of September Seekonk Speedway style with a Fast Friday full of racing action. Three Phil’s Propane Triple Crown Series races were on tap and all of them were for our Seekonk Youth Racing Association divisions.
In the Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandits, four drivers went into the night eligible to take down the Phil’s championship. But when it was all over, Devin Deshaies found himself carrying the checkered flag with his first win of the season. We mentioned it over the microphone during the race, but Deshaies has been the most consistent driver in the division this year and had yet to visit the winner’s circle. He changed that Friday night. The victory gave him both a trophy for the win and the 2017 Phil’s championship for the division.
Our second Bandolero division, the Outlaws, saw two different drivers visit us down on the track after the race. It was Evan Marchand who captured his second feature win of the season behind the wheel of the No. 15. Marchand inherited the lead after a few drivers spun early and he never gave it up. As far as the Phil’s championship goes, it looked as though Zachary Martinez was the champion at first. However, following inspection, Tyler Tomassi was awarded his first career Phil’s title.
The Sport 4 feature went off smoothly and the checkered flag was in the hands of Mike Glad when it came to a conclusion. Glad has been struggling throughout the 2017 season, but was finally able to put all of the pieces together on Friday night. His teammate Glen Leduc was sidelined because of some surgery, but Glad was able to win for him. A job well done to the entire No. 15 G&L Racing team.
Twelve laps was on tap for the Minicups in the final Phil’s race of the night and it was Zachary Levesque taking down his first win of the year in the class. Levesque has struggled a lot with the handling this season, but his team finally hit the numbers right and he was celebrate to celebrate a feature win. Ava Chouinard also celebrated trackside with her first career Phil’s Propane Triple Crown Series title!
The 25 lap Pure Stock feature went off quickly and Mike Hendriques was able to roll into Victory Lane. Hendriques was more than thrilled after the race, especially because he had been so close so many times this year. His No. 03 was the stout car early, but he had some hard chargers behind him at the end, including Greg Perry and Danny Massa. All of the drivers raced clean and Hendriques went to the winner’s circle.
In the only feature left on Friday, the Nick’s Pit Stop Legends saw “Batman” Brandon Martinez roll himself back to glory. Martinez started mid-pack, but as we have seen him do so many times before he worked his way right to the front of the field and captured the win. A job well done goes to Reagan Parent for his fourth place finish, his best career.
Only three Fast Friday’s are left in 2017!
