FROM THE PITS: MATTERA SUCCESSFUL IN SPORT 4’s; MOORE HEADING OFF TO SCHOOL

This past Friday night, I had the chance to catch up with two of the upcoming drivers here at the Seekonk Speedway. In the Sport 4 class, Sam Mattera has put together a successful season so far behind the wheel of her No. 4 TTM Motorsports machine. In the first eight races, Mattera has six finishes inside the top 10, including a best finish of third on July 28th and she also sits fifth in the championships standings.  In what has been a new venture for her this season, Mattera has found that there is one major difference...

ASTLE GRABS PRO STOCK WIN

Fast Freddy Astle was at or near his fastest as he took a big lead early, then held off the ever-present Dave Darling for the finale. Darling finished second, just ahead of the ubiquitous Ryan Vanasse. Rick Martin took fourth while Tom Scully, Jr. rounded out the top five. Kevin Folan led off from the pole, but Astle started directly behind him. Folan took the lead off the green and Astle ducked under outside polesitter, Daryl Stampfl. Astle had second in turn two while Martin came underneath into third. As they went across the stripe again, Vanasse was...

MURPHY RETURNS TO TRUCKS WITH BIG WIN

Rob Murphy returned to the trucks division and put on a big splay for his return, gaining the feature win over Mike Cavallaro. Ed Perry led the race on a lap 22 restart with Cavallaro on his outside. Murphy was low in the second row, under Darryl Dutch. He was all over Perry’s bumper as the leaders went door-to-door. On lap 23, Murphy shot under Perry creating a three-wide setting Cavallaro on the outside. When it broke down, Perry fell back and Murphy went to the front with Cavallaro gaining second. Josh Hedges ducked under Perry into third...

WINNINGEST SPORTSMAN WINS AGAIN

It’s often observed that Scott Serydynski has the most wins ever in the Sportsman Division and he’s still active in that division. This time, he added another victory to his skein with a bit win over Ryan Flood. It was a down-to-the-wire affair with Scott hanging tough and edging Flood out by 55 thousandths of a second. At first it seemed that Flood shared in the glory by capturing the Phil’s Propane Triple Crown, but tech inspection found his car didn’t meet specs and that, too was gone. John Hanafin ran third on the night, followed by...

GLUCHACKI WITH BIG VINDICATION WIN

Derek Gluchacki came back from a week where he was moved out of a win on a Race Control decision to a big Legends win over persistent Shileigh Martinez. Gluchacki took the lead on lap eight following a lap 7 restart. He battled pole position Trent Goodrow on the restart, gaining the lead while crossing the stripe into lap 8. From there, he held off all comers to the checkers, including restarts on laps 13, 18 and 21. Shileigh collected second, while Jesse Jakubajtys took third with Joe Marfeo and Matthew Carpenter rounding out the top five. Derek...
