Branden Dion put a stranglehold onto the Rookie of the Year chase as he picked up his second win of the young season. Rob Murphy took off at the drop of the green and set the early pace. As the pace quickened, so did 5 time champion Rick Martin, who moved to the outside. The pair raced wheel to wheel for a dozen laps, swapping the lead back and forth several times between them. At the half way mark, the pair were virtually tied, with Martin holding a slight edge. Dion was third, with John Paiva and Mike Cavallaro rounding out the top five.

As the leaders headed into turn one, just after completing lap 18, the pair drifted up, opening the bottom lane for the younger Dion to make a three wide pass for the lead. Once out front, the rookie never wavered, and led Martin across the stripe by over a second. Paiva moved under Murphy for third on the final circuit, with Murphy and Scott Dion fourth and fifth.

Kevin Casper jumped into the lead from his pole position start, and never looked back, as he picked up his first win of the 2013 season. Kevin and Ken Spencer brought the 21 car field down for the green, and raced wheel to wheel for several laps before Spencer settled in behind the Phil’s Propane Fusion. Throughout that battle, Kyle Casper ran third, putting pressure on Spencer.

Spencer’s night would take a down turn, when he spun on lap 21 while trying to hang on to second. This lined up three time champion Dave Darling to the outside. Through a handful of restarts, Casper held on and bead Darling to the stripe by .335. Mike Brightman came through the field after an early pit stop to come back to third. Elmer Wing III and Bobby Pelland III rounded out the top five.

Dylan Estrella picked up his first win of the season in the Phil’s Propane Triple Crown 50 lap main event. Ron Barboza Jr started on the point, and set the pace early, holding off Charlie Rose for the lead, with Mark Hudson behind. Barboza held onto the top spot for the first 20 laps before Estrella, who started seventh on the field, used a lap 17 restart to work the outside lane into the lead.

While Estrella was setting the pace, defending LM champion Gerry DeGasparre was working his way through the pack when he and Bobby Pelland III got together, bringing out the caution just shy of the half-way point. Dave

Hutchins Sr made his return behind the wheel of Jr’s Late Model, and showed that he still has some fight left in him, as he wound his way through the field. Hutch started 14th, and found his mount working well on the inside and outside lanes. Once up to second, he couldn’t close in on the young N Attleboro native. Hutchins finished second in the 50 lap feature, with Ryan Lineham, Bill Bernard and Bobby Pelland III third through fifth.

Paul Lallier inherited his second win of the 2013 season when the car that Bob Bettencourt Jr was driving did not pass post-race tech. Doug Rioux jumped out front and led the a handful of laps before Gerard Berthelette moved past and took off from the field. Bettencourt moved into second by lap nine, and slid underneath the N Smithfield native for the lead.

As the laps wound down, Lallier moved into second, and started to put heavy pressure on the Tiverton driver. Re-creating an old rivalry, Lallier several times tried to squeeze past Bettencourt, but could not mount enough of a charge to get past. Scott Bruneau moved into the top three over the final few laps and crossed the line there. Berthelette and Craig Pianka rounded out the top five at the finish. With the DQ, John Hanafin moved up to fifth.
