2012 Car Roll Over Contest Rules

Seekonk Speedway brings back the popular Roll Over contest with an Exhibition show on May 27th. Drivers may register for this event by calling the Speedway office; this event will have limited entries.

 

GENERAL DIVISION RULES:

The Roll Over Contest is planned to return as an annual event and to provide a low-cost high adrenalin experience for participates and a great entertainment the fans.

A) All equipment is subject to the approval by Seekonk Speedway Officials.

B) SAFETY EQUIPMENT:

Helmets: Safety rating no less than SA2000 full-face only. The helmet and a face shield or other acceptable eye protection must be worn at all times during this event.

Seatbelts: Each car must be equipped with minimum of the factory seat belt system.

Seats: Each car must have supplied seat securely and professionally mounted in the stock location. Seats may be reinforced as needed for competition. The driver’s door must be padded to prevent injury.

Helmet, eye protection and gloves are mandatory. 

APPROVED MODELS:

Open to cars, trucks and mini vans as permitted in Seekonk Thrill Shows.

CAR REQUIREMENTS:

Rules will follow the same as outlined for Enduro & Figure 8 cars & Trucks under: Thrill show rules.

Added Rules for Roll Over cars only

The front windshield may be used, removed, or replaced with Lexan or Steel mesh (fence type material) covered over the entire windshield.

If the vehicle is equipped with an electric fuel pump, a shut off switch must be installed within reach of the driver.

ROLL CAGE:

The use of a roll cage is not mandatory. Tubing used for roll cage construction should consist of 1-3/4” OD x .095” thickness (minimum), seamless or electric welded seam. The use of black Iron steel piping is Not allowed. Roll cage must be used only in the driver’s compartment.

Latest gear, hot cars on display at Racers Expo

 

The event, not geared to fans, offers racers and vendors a chance to get together

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — About 1,400 racers and track professionals turned out for the third annual Racers Expo at the Royal Plaza Hotel last weekend, according to organizer Bobby Seymour.

The Expo, which is not geared for race fans, was established three years ago by former racing champs Seymour and John Mikitarian as a forum for “vendors, racers, racing bodies and tracks.”

“You’re so busy at the track …, this is a chance to step back and see all the new pieces and equipment,” Seymour said, adding, “We keep it free for racers and cheap for vendors.”

The show fills the void left by the closing in 2009 of the Racearama and the subsequent Speedway Expo in West Springfield, Mass. The only other regional forum for racers and vendors is the October swap meet at Thompson Raceway Park in Thompson, Conn.

Racer Susan Lescynski, 30, drove down from Richmond, N.H., with her father/mechanic Hank (“I do the fixin’!”). She said she has been racing Mini Sprints for 14 years, winning the 500cc series championship in 2000 and 2001. She now competes in the 600cc series.

John B Verissimo

NEW BEDFORD — John B. Verissimo, 87, of Acushnet, died February 12, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Lydia D. (Medeiros) Verissimo.

Born and raised in New Bedford, he lived in Acushnet most of his life.

He was formerly employed as a photographer at the Seekonk Speedway for many years.

Mr. Verissimo served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Fairhaven.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Robin Quintin of New Bedford; a son, John Verissimo of New Bedford; a sister, Maria Cardin of Somerset; and 2 grandchildren.

His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 21st at 10 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
