Racing 360 Season Preview with Kyle Souza

Seekonk Speedway Set for Sim’s Season Opener

Finally, after a long and snowy winter the Action Track of the East is once again ready to get back into full swing. Sunday will feature the Sim’s Season Opener, which this year has an extra spice too it.

The Valenti Modifed Racing Series has seen two compeitive races so far, at Waterford Speedbowl and Manadnock Speedway, but this one could be even better. For the first time in the series history, they will open the Seekonk Speedway season with a thrilling 100 lap feature event. Former winners on the tour at Seekonk include Todd Annarummo and Chris Pastryeak, both expected to compete on Sunday afternoon. The tour has grown so much over the fast few seasons and should attract Seekonk a great Opening Day crowd.

The weekly divisions at Seekonk will also kick-off their season as part of the Slim’s Sunday Opener. The Pro Stocks, Late Models, Street Stocks and Seekonk Sports Trucks will all compete in qualifying heat races and feature events.

The Pro Stocks, will see the afternoon’s only time trials, to set the starting lineup for their heat races. Kenny Spencer has been known to lay down the fast lap in time trials over the past couple of seasons, and he will be controlling a brand new ride this season. Defending champion David Darling, along with Freddy Astle, Ryan Vanasse, and many others will be trying to open the season with a victory as well.

The Late Model and Street Stock classes have continued to put on some of the best races in New England over the past couple of seasons. Even though the Late Model roster is scarce, the action on the track will not be. Dylan Estrella comes with a brand new ride for 2014, seemingly being the biggest threat to over-take Gerry DeGaspere Jr is his chase for his 8th championship. The Street Stocks three-wide action and excitement makes the price of admission worth it. They fight door handle to door handle each and every week, not afraid to do a little rubbing in the process. Defending champion Scott Bruneau will have some of his toughest competition yet, lead by Rey Lovelace and Craig Pianka.

The Sports Trucks will also be in action Sunday, kicking-off their season with a large field. Last season, was the first time in the divisions past that a full field of trucks (24) made it into the back pit gate on a Saturday. Defending champion John Paiva will have a returning Mike Cavallaro to deal with, who is a former 5-time truck series champion.

Action kicks-off at 1 P.M. on Sunday with qualifying heats, with feature events to folow. Admission into the front gate is $25, with pit gate admission $32. For more infomation, visit seekonkspeedway.com
