Jesse Melberg picks up first Pure Stock win in front of a packed house.

On Sunday, September 4th, the Pure Stocks raced as part of Seekonk Speedway’s Labor Day Celebration, and the Pure Stocks held up their part of the party. Taunton’s Jesse Melberg jumped out front on lap 3 and never looked back, holding off John Robidoux over the last several laps and a couple of restarts.

Dan Massa led the first two laps from his pole position starting spot, but was overtaken by Melberg on lap 3. Danny ran in the second spot until lap 12, when Robidoux slipped by on a restart. Massa fell back to fourth in the next couple of laps, and held on for a top five finish.

Robidoux started fifth on the starting grid, and moved quickly through the field. He moved into the second spot on the lap 11 restart, and swapped the second position with Bill Chouinard a few times before settling on the rear bumper of Melberg.

Chouinard, who started tenth seemed to be the one driver to be able to put some pressure on Jesse, but got together with Jamie Burch while battling for third on lap 19, sending him to the pits with a flat left front tire. The former champion was only able to get back into tenth in the final rundown.

Bill Doyle of Bourne started eighth, and steadily moved up through the pack, working himself into the top three at the checkered.

Coming off his second win of the season, early season points leader Randy Moretti had to starts last in the feature. Randy was able put his Monte Carlo where it needed to be, and worked himself into fourth in the finishing order. Randy also had the fastest lap of the event at lap four.
