Off a year of success in the Sport 4 class that included two victories in his Rookie of the Year run, Tiverton, Rhode Island, driver Alex “AJ” Manuel is one of the early favorites for the crown this season.
Manuel, who ended the season just 14 points back of David Westgate in the title chase, has another year of experience under his belt, which will help him tremendously for the 2018 season. Last year, he showed that he is going to be someone to watch.
Westgate, a multiple-time champion, has entered the No. 49 again for this year ando[8 he is joined by more than a handful of drivers that have proven they can visit the winner’s circle. Names like Glen Leduc, Mikey Lefort, Mike Glad and Jason Poitras have all filed early entries as the Fast Friday season gets closer to starting, and have all been winner’s at some point in their career. Lefort dominated a few races down the stretch of the 2017 season, and ended up winning one of them.
And as always, there are multiple drivers who are entering the year with momentum looking for their first trip to Victory Lane. Tyler Almedia and Tim Bolger both were strong at the end of last season, and there past experience could help them in making a run at carrying a checkered flag. They are both joined by two females — Sam Mattera and Christine Cavallaro — who have come extremely close to winning multiple times in the past in the Sport 4 class. Last year, Mattera finished fifth in the championship standings after grabbing two finishes inside the top five driving for TTM Motorsports.
Joining those two females, Christine Simpson and Alexandra Lille have both entered a car, and they have names like Bob Henry, Brandon Lille, Tyler Duhancik, Timothy Oulette, Henry Lavalle and Matthew Smith all Each of those drivers will put together a run towards carrying the checkered flag in 2018.
The Sport 4 season gets underway as part of the opening night of Fast Friday racing on June 1.
